BEST OF HUDSON VALLEY- 2013 READER'S PICK- BEST BRUNCH!
with Bob Stump & The Roadside Attraction, Doug Moody, Johnny Resk
Country, Bluegrass, and Blues. Folk, Jazz, Rock
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
The Roadside Attraction is real American roots music - with elements of country, bluegrass, blues, folk, jazz and rock sewn into the fabric of their sound. Full of energy and emotion, the core of this ensemble is singer/songwriter Bob Stump on guitar, Doug Moody on fiddle and Johnny Resk on percussion. Their three part harmonies and virtuoso musicianship have set them apart.

Doug Moody’s fiddle with Bob Stump’s vocals can be likened to Willie Nelson with Mickey Raphael’s harmonica. Bob has recently inked deals with music publishers in Nashville and L.A. and his song the "Cowboy In Me" has aired on Sirius XM satellite radio.

Based in Upstate NY, the band performs concerts and club dates throughout the Northeast. Bob's second CD "Stumpgrass Live" is in the editing stages and will be available soon.

The firehouse has been meticulously restored to highlight the original brick walls, wood floors and historic grand wooden staircase."

Split Bill!
with The Stacks, Andy Stack, Tania Elizabeth
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
There are many musicians that are great with words, and more still that can play with passion and versatility, but the two together are inarguably more rare.

Andy Stack and Tania Elizabeth are two such artists. Intensely musical and intuitive players, they are both known for their abilities to accompany others with amazing sensitivity and accuracy.

They met in a prohibition-era blues club in the middle of NYC, both having come to support a mutual friend who was playing there. A conversation about music turned into a four-hour jam session, and a duo was born. Their sound is an intoxicating blend of old and new; blues and gospel collide with kitchen-party fiddle riffs and crystal clear vocals that shake the foundation of North American music.

To see the two play together, it’s obvious that there is an understanding between them, a foundation from which anything seems possible.

Clair and The Millionaires will be performing works from his new CD, “Love Makes Us Weird,” which offers up a tasty mix of roots music composed by Clair, who has been called a “citified troubadour,” and “laid-back—yet very New York.” For old timers, his voice and approach evoke Joe Jackson, but with a more layered sound. Worth a good, long listen!

Voted 'Best Local Band in Nashville' by the Tennessean, the four classically trained musicians of Harpeth Rising bring an exciting and fresh new sound to folk music. Their four part harmonies and virtuosic instrumentals of violin and cello mixed with banjo and percussion create an exciting and unique blend of musical genres. Their latest album, 'Tales From Jackson Bridge,' remains true to Harpeth Rising's folk, bluegrass, and classical roots throughout, while it expands on their blues, Latin, and rock influences and adds in some new flavors such as Texas Swing and Gypsy Jazz. The album has already reached No. 6 on the International Folk Charts and been named in Americana Radio Top Five Most Added List, the Roots Music Report's Top Forty, Alternate Root's Top Ten Songs of the Week, and Amazon's Top Twenty Hot New Releases in Roots Rock.

Marlboro, NY   See Map
Although Popa Chubby grew up in the 1970s, he took his cue from artists of the '60s, including Sly & the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton, among others.

Chubby's first big break was winning a national blues talent search sponsored by KLON, a public radio station in Long Beach, California. He won New Artist of the Year, and opened the Long Beach Blues Festival in 1992. Chubby played more than 200 club dates a year through the '90s.

His Sony/Okeh debut, Booty and the Beast, was produced by legendary Atlantic Records engineer/producer Tom Dowd, whose recordings by Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Wilson Pickett, and others are timeless.

Troubled by the war in Iraq, Chubby released his most political album, Peace, Love and Respect, followed by Big Man Big Guitar; Stealing the Devil's Guitar; Electric Chubbyland; Vicious Country; Universal Breakdown Blues followed in 2013 and featured Chubby's cover version of "Over the Rainbow" as its centerpiece.

“Calling Don Byron a jazz musician is like calling the Pacific wet – it just doesn’t begin to describe it... Byron has carpentered an extraordinary career precisely by obliterating the very idea of category.” –TIME Magazine

As clarinetist, saxophonist, composer, arranger, and social critic, he redefines every genre of music he plays, be it classical, salsa, hip-hop, funk, rhythm & blues, klezmer, or any jazz style from swing and bop to cutting-edge downtown improvisation. He has been consistently voted best clarinetist by critics and readers alike in leading international music journals since being named “Jazz Artist of the Year” by Down Beatin 1992. Acclaimed as much for his restless creativity as for his unsurpassed virtuosity as a player, Byron has presented a multitude of projects at major music festivals around the world.

Marlboro, NY   See Map
Artfully blending the lines between gospel and blues music for a dozen years or so has been vocalist/songwriter Alexis P. Suter. Suter began singing in her church choir in Brooklyn as a four-year-old, herself the daughter of a singer, Carrie Suter, who sang backing vocals with the likes of Harry Belafonte and Mahalia Jackson.Suter's mother went to Juilliard and taught school in Brooklyn, while her father worked for the post office in Manhattan. Suter recalled in interviews listening to Ruth Brown on the radio as far back as she can remember, and she cites the late classic R&B singer as a primary influence.

Her band includes backup singer Vicki Bell and drummer Ray Grappone, the principal owners and sound engineers at Hipbone Records, as well as guitarist Jimmy Bennett, bassist Peter Bennett and Benny Harrison's passionate keyboard wizardry and vocals.

Acoustic Cafe Music Series

The Kennedys return to the Acoustic Cafe for a Post- Valentine’s Concert on February 15th! With Special guest, local HS senior Matt Roy. In a career that now spans two decades, NY duo Pete and Maura Kennedy have traversed a broad musical landscape, surveying power pop, acoustic songwriting, organic rock rooted in their early days in Austin, and a Byrds-inspired jangle that drew the attention of Roger McGuinn, Steve Earle, and most notably Nanci Griffith. The duo co-produced Nanci's latest CD. On their own recent release, "Closer Than You Know", the songs have a quality, inherent in Maura’s voice, that is both soothing and urgent. As writers and producers, the Kennedys continue to mature, from their early style-conscious pop to today’s burnished sheen. Always tuned to their own muse, Pete and Maura have once again come up with a unique sound that is as uplifting as it is unclassifiable. www.Kennedysmusic.com Proceeds benefit the Haiti scholarship fund.
