The members of the Peekskill-based band UNI, hail from the islands and blend the Bob Marley style with the more modern dance hall sound.

Dar Chi, the groups bass player says that "Reggae is the indigenous music. When you come here you don't want to leave your vernacular or colloquial sayings at home; that's prevalent in the music. A lot of our songs are social and reflect what's happening in the community. Some of us are Rastafarians, so there are some radical political connotations."

The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
“This young musician and composer is at once reestablishing the artistic, cultural, and social tradition of jazz while creating an entirely new jazz language for the 21st century.” - MacArthur Foundation,2008.

Multiple Grammy Nominee and Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellow, Miguel Zenón, represents a select group of musicians who have masterfully balanced and blended the often-contradictory poles of innovation and tradition.

Zenón and the Rhythm Collective first came together for a U.S. State Department tour of West Africa in 2003, and all of the music that appears on this album was conceived during—or inspired by—that experience.

Drummer Tony Escapa and percussionist Reynaldo de Jesus burn with the fire of a thousand suns at times, but balance their frenetic energy with a more spacious outlook. Zenón and electric bassist Aldemar Valentin share in their ability to blur lines, delivering melodic rhythms and rhythmic melodies throughout.

It's all about the love and the groove that Slam shares with the world. Slam Allen’s unique blend of soul and blues, from his time on the famous Chitlin' to international performances around the world, radiates his enthusiasm and has been shared with thousands of listeners.

As the lead singer and guitarist in the legendary James Cotton Band, Allen says, "It's one of the highlights and privileges of my life to play with Cotton…He is one of the last living legends, and there's so much history there. Cotton was directly connected to Muddy Waters -- who was a major factor in the blues world as well as being one of my all time favorites. Playing with Cotton is such a great experience for me and there are things you can learn from him that you can't learn from any school. It's a great honor."

Music is in Allen's blood - from his father and uncles, known as the Allen Brothers Band. Slam Allen carries on the family legacy.

Both traditional and trailblazing...Highly recommended. ***Blues Review Magazine***

Baum's playing has a deep funk to it, with a big influence of Jimmy Smith. And Baum also brings in all kinds of other things as well - dissonant jazz, alternative rock, R&B. He's not too far off from what John Medeski does with Medeski, Martin and Wood, but with more of a blues streak to it. ***Jim Trageser. Escondido, Calif. ***

New York Uproar brings together some of Westchester's finest musicians to keep alive the high energy, horn driven, rock, soul and blues of the 60's and 70's.

Their passion and energy for this music is immediately evident whether it's a Motown hit, Stax classic or any of the horn driven hits by the classic "Horn" bands like Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears or Tower of Power.

The Band members collective experiences bridge the gamut from Broadway to recording sessions and from cruise ships to regional and national touring bands.

The true highlight of New York Uproar is their horn section. These guys are the "Real Deal" with years of Broadway, Big Band and club date experience. They deliver the powerful sound that only a pro horn section can. Whether it is the unmistakable horn line from songs such as Chicago's "Beginnings" or the Sam and Dave classic "Soul Man" these guys nail it every time!

“Say the word ‘pure’ and two things come to mind: a beer commercial from a Rocky Mountain stream and the voice of singer Judy Collins. Time to add Christine DeLeon to that list” says MorristownGreen.com’s Kevin Coughlin. With a voice often compared to the likes of Judy Collins, Dar Williams and Sean Colvin, Christine “delivers her own well-written songs and those of her folk contemporaries with charm and conviction," as proclaimed by Mike Agranoff of the Minstrel Concert Series in Morristown. He goes on to say "Her brilliant voice and artful songs have made her a local hero” which makes it easy to understand why she was chosen as a winner in the 2008 New Jersey Folk Festival Songwriting Competition.

The Purple Crayon
52 Main Street
Hastings on Hudson, NY   See Map
British folk-rocker Teddy Thompson infuses his music with an Americana sound, inspired by the country and soul music he loves, but he hasn't forgotten his English roots. The son of legendary singer-songwriters Richard and Linda Thompson, Teddy has made a name for himself by blending the music of his home country and his adopted one. His songwriting expresses his "English sensibility - sarcastic, self-deprecating ... I write exactly what comes to mind." With witty lyrics and overtones of soul-searching and questioning at the end of a relationship, Thompson's latest album, Bella, is receiving rave reviews. Entertainment Weekly says he "channels Roy Orbison heartbreak, Lou Christie falsetto, and Righteous Brothers drama with stirring results."

Don't miss him at our intimate venue in Westchester!
