 "In my paintings, I try to evoke the significance of the subject through elements used in the composition, and engage the audience in discovering these elements of the subject's personality. I hope using this technique will offer viewers deeper understanding of the subject. I want viewers to see the whole portrait, but also to be very aware of the words, numbers or patterns used to create the piece. This creates a dynamic tension to engage the viewer in discovering which symbols are used to define the piece and how they relate to the subject. My goal as an artist is to give people a visual channel in which to view social situations. Painting allows me to interact with the subjects of my community, whether that community is my family, my neighborhood, or the community of the world. Perhaps through my paintings viewers can reflect on their own reality."
Nestor Madalengoitia was born in Lima, Peru in 1959. He came to the US in 1986, currently lives in Poughkeepsie, NY.

 Each of the members of Lines of Reason have had illustrious carreers, performing as band leaders as well as playing with such greats as Sonny Fortune, McCoy Tyner, Hannibal, Marvin Peterson, and Clark Terry. These five friends now come into their own, with this exciting and creative collaboration, where each player has equal input.
Bassist Marcus Mclaurine toured and recorded with Kenny Burrell and Clark Terry,
among others, following a stint in the Air Force Marching Band.
Master drummer Alan Nelson, is in high-demand for his intense energy and hyper-sensitivity.
Alto saxophonist Joe Ford has earned a reputation for his work with the great pianist McCoy Tyner.
Trombonist Clifford Adams has been a member of the highly successful R&B band called Kool and the Gang.
And, the force behind the Lines of Reason nexus, is veteran pianist/composer Michael Cochrane, who has worked with Sonny Fortune, Eddie Gomez and a host of other greats.

After taking a hiatus from singing to raise her family, Sara has recently returned to playing out at local Open Mics, including at 12 Grapes. Each time Sara takes our stage, we are completely riveted.
Jess Erick has a voice that stops a room. A wonderful vocalist and songwriter, Jess runs our once-monthly Open Mic Nights. Her songs, "Take Me Home", "Pen Letter " and "Honey" are fan favorites.

 Allison Miller's critically acclaimed BOOM TIC BOOM is celebrating the release of their 2nd studio album, No Morphine, No Lilies (Royal Potato Family). Miller's new music fully explores their deepened connection as a band and each members unique musical personality. Expect a plethora of collective improvisation, a vast array of tonal colors, rhythmic and harmonic shape-shifts, and rich emotions, launched from compositions strongly rooted in the modern jazz tradition, yet branching out to the avant‐garde, rhythm and blues, and Americana roots music.

 The 1st Thursday of each month, join saxman and vocalist JP Patrick and his band as they rehearse, work, and play for each other, and for you. "Sessions" gives audience members an up-close-and personal view of what it takes to put together a live performance. You'll enjoy this intimate look at how musicians do what they love to do best: "play".
JP has been on the Blues music scene for years, and is a tremendously talented front-man, vocalist and songwriter. He plays Blues harp and alto sax, and always performs with passion and energy. His audiences feel it... and love it. His original songs are full of wit and charm. Songs like "Simple Request (Stop Breaking My Balls)" and "Shy of Indigo" showcase his talents as a funky Blues musician who's taking his art to the next level.
Every installment of "Sessions" is unique, as JP often invites different musicians to sit in and perform. Nights with JP and his band are always super-fun!

 Orlando Marin, a contemporary of such greats as Tito Puente, Machito, and Tito Rodriguez, is the only orchestra leader from New York’s golden era of mambo who still performs regularly.
Orlando formed his first band, Eddie Palmieri and his Orchestra and, since then, has played with several different bands and has performed in the famous Palladium Ballroom. In 1997, Latin music historiographer Max Salazar presented Orlando a plaque in recognition of nearly five decades of uninterrupted contribution to Latin music. In January 2003, Orlando was invited by Latin Jazz station, WPFW, by the Arlington County (Virginia) Cultural Arts Division, and by the Latin American Folk Institute to do a live concert in Washington at The Spectrum Theater and in 2006, Congressman Jose E. Serrano honored Orlando as “The Last Mambo King,” for his continuing to provide Latin American music and his willingness to devote time to helping the less fortunate.

 In the changing musical scene of America's post-war years, Jazz musicians started working in smaller combos, Blues and Country artists began experimenting with amplification, Gospel music began to make its way out of the churches, and boutique record labels presented new voices to a growing audience of citified music lovers. Out of these voices came a slew of new sounds that all shared an energetic and entertaining embrace of good times and great tunes, and together laid the foundation for the Rock & Roll revolution.
Shorty King's Clubhouse plays the music of this era as if they were there, rocking and jumping with Louis Jordan, Ray Charles, Louis Prima and more. Throw in some 3- and 4-part harmonies, some straight-up Jazz and a smattering of Rockabilly and New Orleans sounds, and you've got a rollicking revue of great American music.
