Ed Palermo is not a “business as usual” musician. After all, when most people think of “big bands” they think of Duke and Dorsey. But go to see Ed Palermo’s Big Band and you might hear Zappa, Hendrix, the blues of Paul Butterfield & Mike Bloomfield or one of Ed’s own compositions, loaded with lush turns and unexpected twists. Gil Evans wonderfully articulated Palermo’s unusual approach to traditional instrumentation:
Napoleon Murphy Brock-
American singer, saxophonist and flute player, Napoleon Murphy Brock, is best known for his work with Frank Zappa in the 1970s, including the albums One Size Fits All, Roxy and Elsewhere, and Bongo Fury. His own most memorable vocal accomplishments are illustrated on the songs "Village of the Sun" and "Florentine Pogen."

No one writes quite like Antje Duvekot, who was influenced lyrically by the very greats — Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon and Leonard Cohen, who are Mt. Rushmore-like figures to her. “Antje is the rare artist who can write about the social and the personal in the same breath,” says folk icon Ellis Paul. “Her voice has a sound of innocence and naivete which makes razor-sharp insights into the human condition.” And as Springsteen biographer Dave Marsh says, “Antje is the whole package.”They meet in the middle with acoustic guitars. Standing next to other contemporary duos like The Weepies, The Civil Wars, The Swell Season, The Sea, The Sea is spare beauty, bravely unadorned. Or as the gifted singer-songwriter Amy Speace said about them “Two voices that blend like smoke and air. Like night and a whisper. Two distinct award-winning songwriters that meet in the mercury, collide and create emotionally spare music. Simple and true.” For advance tickets and more info, click here

Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Neil Young – even the greatest talents started somewhere. Sometimes it was at an open mic. And when they got good enough, they were invited to perform in a showcase with a few other talented artists. Our showcases, held on many Sunday nights, feature the best of local and regional talents. Yes, they are unknowns – for now. But they're good. For some, it's a launch pad to a great career. Somewhere, there are people who can say, "I saw Bob Dylan when he was just a kid starting out."More info at the Towne Crier Cafe

Dave Kearney was a founding member of “Reed Street,” opening for national acts including The Hollies, Ted Nugent, the Amboy Dukes, Steppenwolf, Seals and Croft, and Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels. Then in 1971 he formed the alt-country band “Backslider.” This group played concerts, clubs and festivals from Delaware to Key West, opening for John Prine, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at the Wheel, and Ronnie Milsap. Thursday 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm | The Trapps Americana. Folk & Rock n' Roll | The Falcon 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
The Trapps are an American band tapping the roots of Americana, Folk and Rock and Roll with a strong emphasis on "the song" and lyrical fiber. All at once they grab you with powerful harmonies like the Jayhawks or rivet you with a high intensity jam like the Black Crowes, but for this band, it is never done loosely or in a way that pulls the listener away from the essence and presentation of the song itself. Full of risk and heart, they weave universal themes into a musical fabric that is entirely original yet feels like you have known the sound your entire life.Jason Fine, Executive Editor, of Rolling Stone Magazine, says The Trapps are “Elegant yet raw, darkly emotional but shot through with light…rangy experimental roots rock played with confidence and hope.” Johnny Black, Music Director, High Plains Public Radio, Amarillo, TX says The Trapps are “An indie “roots” Americana act with raw, stark, honest-to-Hank emotional intensity and musical ability.”

Drew Bordeaux has many fans. 12 Grapes is one of his biggest.Whether playing solo with an acoustic guitar or screaming Hendrix-style riffs on a violin, Drew never fails to captivate and entertain an audience. His original tunes weave classic Rock and Blues with today's Pop and Alternative styles to create music that is rich, moving, and relentlessly catchy. NY music reviewer Kevin Johnston wrote, "His guitar work is the real deal... A lot of players have forgotten what the rock solo is for, but Drew knows and he uses it to take the music to a new level. And just to make sure you stay interested, he switches to electric violin." Despite all of his achievements, Drew is first and foremost a songwriter. He has composed dozens of songs performed at an impressive list of venues. Drew's first EP, "Live Your Way", has deeply personal lyrics and catchy melodies. **$5 Entertainment Fee for all, including diners**
