The band, based in Montclair, NJ, consists of Rich Seiner (vocals, guitar), Chip Moore (vocals, guitar, bass), Martin Purcell (vocals, bass, guitar), and John Purcell (drums). This lineup has been together for about three years. We play mostly in the NY/NJ/PA/CT/MA area, but we've traveled to gigs as far as Warsaw, Poland, and Florence, Italy. Our sound is hard to describe, but if you pictured Led Zeppelin's little brother playing Steely Dan songs, threw in a little bit of Latin groove and Disco, you'd be close. We've had some great shows, like opening up for Steve Miller at the NJPAC, and warming up for Chris Baron of Spin Doctors at Triumph Brewery in Princeton. Another incredible highlight was playing with Les Paul (R.I.P.), and Bucky Pizzarelli at Club Iridium in Manhattan. We have the the privelege of jamming regularly with great drummers such as Claude Coleman, Jr. (Ween, Amandla), and Adam Fischel (Debbie Gibson, Jersey Boys).

Red Hook, NY   See Map
Singer and guitarist Maggie Rothwell performs songs from yesterday through today. Listen or sing along to all of your favorites.

Bio for Darian Rivera: I’ve been singing since I was a kid. I was always into music and always wanted to write songs. I finally got a chance to do this with my guitar teacher Gary. I am learning how to play the guitar with the original songs that we create. I have been playing the guitar for about four years now and have completed five original songs to date. My goal is to get at least one song picked up by an artist to put on an album, or I can record them for my own album… or both. Currently, I enjoy hosting the Tasty Tunes Open Mic that take place on Thursday evenings at Taste Budds. :)

The Hudson Valley Folk Guild will present a concert of music entitled “Beyond a Simple Folk Song”, July 29th, 3pm, at the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center, Vassar St., in Poughkeepsie.

“Beyond a Simple Folk Song” was conceived to be an annual festival of newly created music based on our folk heritage to be performed in a concert setting. No less than six Hudson Valley composers/arrangers have accepted the Hudson Valley Folk Guild’s challenge to push the edge of the envelope by creating or arranging larger new works using folk songs, historic events, or traditional instruments to stretch their craft beyond the usual scope of song. The concert features compositions and arrangements by the following accomplished composers and songwriters: Kevin Becker, Pat Lamanna, John Martucci, Phil Miller, Frank Tetler and Valerie Turner. Tickets for “Beyond a Simple Folk Song” are $10.

Grape Jam Weekend culminates
with Mishti Roy, and, Mani Cregan!
Pop/Soft Rock, Acoustic
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Mishti Roy is a singer/songwriter with a voice that is unique, soulful and moving... we think one of the most talented female vocalists in the Hudson Valley. Mishti's music has been described as "coasting between a bottom-heavy Zeppelin Rock, Blues-infused grooves, Thelonius Monk-inspired guitar work, and a Nina Simone-style wail-to-whisper." Her connection to the audience is immediate... and lasting.

When Mani takes the stage with his acoustic guitar, expect to be moved. His vocals go from soft to soaring. His songwriting is often touching and poignant-- with songs like "Happiness Descends" and "Careful What you Wish For". Mani was once runner up in The Peak FM contest to play onstage with Weezer at Madison Square Garden. We like him on our stage better.

We could think of no better way to finish off our Grape Jam weekend than with two of our favorite singer/songwriters, Mishti & Mani.

Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online: www.wtbq.com or 93.5FM, NY   See Map
Doug Wintch is "a guy who makes up songs and plays guitar and harmonica." Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Doug rambled across much of the U.S., as a ski-bum; cook, carpenter, and yes, songwriter. Doug's interest in Bob Dylan's songs is evident, as are the influences of Jerry Jeff Walker, John Prine, Taj Mahal, Tom Waits, Hank Williams, etc. Although his songs pay homage to these influences, they are not limited by them. Doug has traveled as a member of the Utah Phillips Long Memory tribute tour; spearheaded by Utah’s son, Duncan Phillips. Stops have included venues like Cafe Lena, Club Passim, and the Sisters of the Road benefit in Portland Oregon. A long-time Utah favorite, Doug was voted Favorite Male Songwriter by the Intermountain Acoustic Music Association in 2011. He was a Kerrville New Folk finalist in 2005. Doug also performs with singer/songwriter Anke Summerhill. They tour and perform together as a duo, or as a trio when joined by their drummer Jamie Dalton.

The Saugerties Area Chamber of Commerce and Café Mezzaluna present the 3rd in a series of concerts in the park. This one is at the Waterfront Park on E. Bridge St. in Saugerties and features these outstanding musicians:

Open Book ....an engaging amalgam of harmony vocals, tasty folk rock, and, most importantly, intelligent and astute songwriting that fully realizes that whatever the two songwriters are living through, most of their audience has also experienced.

Marc Black ... is an eclectic folk-rocker who carries the Woodstock tradition of dealing with life with all its social and political challenges… one song at a time. He's been hailed by noted folk artist Happy Traum for his “timeless” songs featuring “deep grooves and top-notch guitar and vocals.”

Uncle Buckle ... makes songs that hail from everywhere, incorporating ballads, cowboy songs, and jigs. His songs give voice to craftsmen, broken-hearted mechanics and girls with their dirt bikes.

Born in Havana, Cuba, Tony Leon launched his singing career with Los Melodicos. He went on to work with the Niño Rivera Group and the distinguished Modelo de Miguelito Cuni band.

Tony arrived in New York in 1979 and became soloist for renowned trumpeter and orchestra leader Alfredo 'Chocolate' Armenteros. Their album, Prefiero el Son, recorded with S.A.R. Records, went gold. His years with Chocolate included group concerts, where he worked alongside music greats such as Roberto Torres, Linda Leida, Papaito, Alfredito de la Fe, Alfredo Valdes, Jr. and Marino Solano.

In 1987, he became the lead singer for José Fajardo y Sus Estrellas. It was the legendary flutist and band leader, José Antonio Fajardo who gave Tony his title: El Leon del Bolero.

Tony has performed in concerts with Willie Chirino, Ray Baretto, David Valentino, Cachao, Hansel y Raul, Tito Puente and Johnny Pacheco. He continues to delight audiences with his unique voice and mastery of the bolero.

Peekskill, NY   See Map
Buried in Blue is one of the BEST party bands in the county... lead guitarist Tom Dowd is known for his lightning-fast guitar work, clear, soaring vocals and fresh, compelling arrangements that span Rock, Blues, R&B and Pop classics. The band features the inimitable Tom Dowd on vocals and lead guitar (and this man can PLAY guitar!), Jaynie "Blonde Thunder" D'Agostino on percussion, Pete McGregor on drums, Barry "Buzzy" Garriola on bass and Kevin McSweeney rhythm guitar, who provides the unshakable and perfectly-chosen solos that make each song a new classic. As one reviewer writes: "If you want to catch an incredible live performance of Classic Rock, Pop and Blues with pitch-perfect vocals, powerful drums, and some hot Hendrix-style guitar, see these guys soon....Buried in Blue is buried in talent."

DInner reservations highly recommended as this band packs the house (and the dance floor!)
