 From his early days of playing along in the living room with Herb Alpert and the TJB to second chair trumpet in the high school band, music has been an integral part in the life of Doug Irving. Trumpet gave way to guitar and piano as the creative forces started taking hold. A singer/songwriter who writes in many styles and is equally comfortable on guitar or keyboards his songs have been recorded by numerous independent artists. Including Mirinda James, whose recording of "A Place in my Heart" has been heard world-wide and twice garnered Song of the Year honors by the Northeast Country Music Association. After eight years in Nashville, honing his craft Doug moved back home to the Northeast in 2006. He has just put the finishing touches on the ambitious 2-CD "An Adirondack Suite." And is currently working on publishing a book of his poetry and song lyrics as well as his first novel.

The Esopus Creek Conservancy and John Burroughs Natural History Society are co-sponsoring a guided nature walk at Esopus Bend Nature Preserve in Saugerties on Saturday, June 23, 2012, to observe summer breeding birds and butterflies. We will identify birds by sight and sound as we explore the Preserve’s woodlands, wetlands, and meadow, pausing along the way to observe the diversity of plant and animal life that inhabit the Preserve. As the morning temperatures rise, we will focus our attention on early summer butterflies active in the Preserve at this time of the year.
Meet at 8:00 a.m. in the Saugerties Village Beach parking lot on US Rte. 9W, just north of the Esopus Creek bridge, at the foot of Partition Street in the Village of Saugerties.
Bring binoculars, insect repellant, and field guides if you have them. Be prepared for potentially wet/muddy trails, tall grass, and dress according to weather conditions. Light rain often makes for excellent birding and nature observation, but will inhibit or eliminate most butterfly activity. Heavy rain will cancel the walk. Children are welcome and encouraged, but please do not bring pets.

 An original member of Slide Hampton's World of Trombones, Clifton has worked with a "Who's Who" of diverse musical giants: from Frank Foster, McCoy Tyner, Clifford Jordan, Stevie Wonder, Dizzy Gillespie, Merv Griffin and The Mighty Sparrow to Lester Bowie, Paul Simon, Muhal Richard Abrams, WyClef Jean, and Dionne Warwick among others.
A featured member of the Sonny Rollins group from 1983 to 2009, Clifton toured worldwide and appeared on ten of Sonny's recordings. As a leader Clifton's last release,"Decade" earned critical acclaim, contributing to his nomination from The Jazz Journalist Association for "2009 Trombonist Of The Year". His latest recording, "And So We Carry On" is already being viewed as one of the most highly anticipated releases coming this fall.

 At the break for the Clifton Anderson Quartet, Director Muta'Ali and producer NJ Frank will show the trailer and discuss "Life's Essentials with Ruby Dee", a documentary film about LOVE, ART and ACTIVISM.
The film, still in progress, will be a fitting tribute to a couple whose work has touched the pulse of society, from Purlie Victorious, to their PBS series, With Ossie and Ruby, to Raisin in the Sun, to Do the Right Thing, to Ruby's Academy Award nominated performance in American Gangster. The film will focus on the love and life story of Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee as told through the lens of Ruby's grandson-the film’s director-Muta'Ali.
The Life's Essentials team is no stranger to filmmaking, with several documentary feature films between them. "Our goal is to make the most beautiful film possible," said Director Muta'Ali. And to make this a people-funded production as is fitting for the couple.

 This 7-piece band -- with classic horn section, double-bass, killer keyboards and Duchess Di at center stage -- will drive you to distraction with their unique style of risque Blues, Swing and Jump, and American roots music like Rockabilly and early Rock and Roll.
In true '40's Diva style, Duchess Di gets all dolled up in sequined, tight-fitting dresses, a gardenia tucked into her hair. On New Year's Eve, Duchess Di did four costume changes and a dance number... The show they put on--with drama and style--makes for the most entertaining evening you'll ever have!
The Distractions' repertoire from the 40's and 50's include covers by artists such as Ruth Brown, Dinah Washington, Louis Jordan, and Louis Prima. These guys are "red hot and real gone!" Be sure to call for dinner reservations 'cause this band packs the house!

As he has done on his recent "sojourns through America," Kinky will be performing solo, dispensing the wisdom of the Jewish troubadour, and signing books. Everybody loves a good Kinky Friedman performance, as well, as reviews of his shows have been off the charts nearly everywhere.
