The Brighton Beat was formed in 2010 out of a love for afrobeat, old and new. Although it's a new project, the musicians in The Brighton Beat have been playing music together for years. Realizing their common love for jazz and afrobeat, they decided to set forth on an adventurous path, writing their own interpretation of afrobeat-funk in today's modern world. The band takes influence from many styles; everything from Fela Kuti and Antibalas to John Coltrane, and Medeski, Martin, and Wood help spark the creativity of the group. In late 2010, they recorded their first self-titled EP, which has received rave reviews in the jazz-world. Their unique approach translates into an invigorating live performance, combining tight arrangements, fresh grooves, and a very jazz-influenced sound. The Brighton Beat is sure to be a fun, interactive, and memorable show.

Sweetback Sisters Emily Miller and Zara Bode may not be blood relations, but their precise, family-style harmonies recall the best of country music from the Everlys to The Judds, as well as the spirited rockabilly energy of Wanda Jackson, one of the band's role models. Like the artists they admire, the Sweetbacks are concerned with the traditional subjects of heartbreak, revenge, remorse and staying strong in the face of relationships gone wrong, albeit with a contemporary sensibility. "We're a renegade retro band that mixes up country, swing and honky tonk," explains Bode. "Sometimes what we deliver is straight out of the 50s; other times it's BR549 meets The B52s."

MOPCO brings its unique brand of improv -- Friday nights at 8:00pm.

"You Never Know..." is, well, darn it all, it's unpredictable.

On any given Friday night, the audience might take part in Play Dough Theatre, or judge a grudge match between two improv directors, or take to the stage in one of the many audience participation games the company offers, or sing along in a rousing improvised chorus, or....hey, you never know.

But let's be clear: Mopco is not affiliated with any state Lottery games.

A Groove that will make you move
with Chris Fox & Mojo Monde
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
A band that's been rocking the Hudson Valley with performances at the Turning Point and the Pleasantville Music Festival, Mojo Monde is not only known for their soulful original music, but they are an inspired interpreter of others' music as well. Whether playing 1960's British Invasion or 1970's funk, the band brings a fresh, deep grooving sensibility that gets audiences moving.

Along with guitarist/singer/songwriter Chris Fox, Mojo Monde features session musician-level players, including five-time Grammy-nominee Jon Cobert on keyboards and vocals, Tony Tino on bass (who tours nationally with Gavin DeGraw), and Denny McDermott on drums (who has recorded and performed with Steely Dan's Donald Fagen, David Johansen and many others).

Last time Mojo Monde was at 12 Grapes, they rocked the house, leaving everyone in awe. Tonight will be no exception! We're genuinely looking forward to the return of these fine musicians.
