Unplugged Sunday
with Addie Brownlee, and, Kristina Koller
Singer-Songwriter, Acoustic
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Addie's voice is reminiscent of Dusty Springfield. "I love the comparison," she says, "and I love the imagery that her name evokes. It's Americana, Alt/Country, Singer/Songwriter." Addie recently performed a show called "I Beg Your Pardon" with songs of Dolly Parton ("Far and away my biggest influence.") and performed at the 2010 CMJ Showcase. Her song, "Sea Legs" from her new EP "East of Leaving" even features a cameo by Martha Wainwright.

Kristina Koller is a young Jazz/pop vocalist and songwriter. A senior at Yorktown High, Kristina has auditioned at some of NY's most prestigious music colleges for Jazz performance. We've been impressed with Kristina's talents since the first time we heard her, and know her future is bright. Kristina's preferred instrument is the ukulele, which makes her all the more endearing.

Addie and Kristina will be performing alternating sets. Please join us for an amazing night with two talented singers.

Jaime Michaels
Folk/Traditional, Americana, and Singer-Songwriter
Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online: www.wtbq.com or 93.5FM, NY   See Map
The song. Ask Jaime Michaels what’s the most important aspect of what he’s been doing for the past few decades and that will be his answer. The song. It shows in the craftsmanship of his tunes, in the care that he applies to each choice of a word, each musical phrase. Or as WAMC’s Wanda Adams Fischer put it in a review: “That's how it is with Jaime. When you hear him sing, you can tell whether he's smiling, yearning, pining, or questioning. He writes songs with special meanings… with a sense of purpose, a sense of belief that music is as critical to life as breathing itself.”

“The show is a cross between ‘Yellow Submarine’ and Dr. Seuss.” - The New York Times

Groovy Gustafer Yellowgold is a small, yellow, cone-headed fellow, who came to Earth from the Sun and has a knack for finding himself neck-deep in absurd situations as he explores his new life in the Minnesota woods. Equal parts pop rock concert and animated storybook, Gustafer Yellowgold concerts are a truly different multimedia experience that entrances children and adults alike.

Marilyn Miller

40 West MArket Street
Red Hook, NY   See Map
Hudson, NY and the surrounding towns have been home for singer/songwriter Marilyn Miller for most of her life, and her music often deals with the contradictions inherent in an area which is at once both very rural and very urban. You will find her most often encouraging others at an open mic, having an open jam at her country home, supporting a farmers' market or other cause, or busking on the streets of her hometown. It is no surprise that, given the diversity of her sounds, her favorite musician is Neil Young, a man well known to follow his muse wherever it takes him. His influence is very evident in the songs Marilyn writes, and in how she approaches the art of music. As a performer, Marilyn is most often compared to Patti Smith, no doubt due to the high energy she displays in presenting her work, and her dedication to always seeking the truth in the music. Her goal is to provide the listener with sounds that make a person move, think and feel, and she does deliver.

The Roots Music Festival presents an incredibly varied and impressive array of local talent, which draw upon their shared experiences and love of music, while highlighting the common roots behind all the sounds they create. It will be. The crackle of the radio signal as a late night radio show drifts on, years ago, in the deep south, seamlessly blending bluegrass and country, with string and jug band music, alongside folk and delta blues; the passion and fire of an old fashioned tent revival held on a green field against a blue sky; a traveling show made up of a band of musicians, all with different styles and sounds, yet all united in purpose, feeling and inspiration; these are some of the influences and events, which have been drawn upon to create the Roots Music Festival, which will be held at the Linda in Albany. This event is for music lovers only.
