Dan Lavoie's unique guitar style began at the age of 12 in his hometown of Pawling, NY. His biggest influence at that point was his older brother Mikie. Dan would flip his brother's right handed guitar upside down like Jimmy Hendrix and play left handed. After performing in many bands ranging from rock, funk/jam and metal, Lavoie enrolled in the Music Performance Program at Dutchess Community College receiving his MPC with Honors studying with classical guitarist Jeff Armstrong and was accepted to Berklee College of Music. In 2001 Dan decided to go solo and began recording his first instrumental album Little Noodles. He continued writing solo pieces throughout the years but began crafting songs about his life experiences. He traveled with a former bandmate of Makeshift Mountains performing around Europe in 2007.

In the past quarter-century, Mississippi-bred, Nashville-based, singer/songwriter STEVE FORBERT has built a deeply personal body of work that's won him a reputation for clear-eyed insight and plainspoken eloquence. In the process, he's evolved from the wide-eyed young troubadour of his early classics --Alive On Arrival and Jackrabbit Slim-- to the mature, bittersweet outlook of his more recent work, which surveys darker territory with hard-won empathy and deeply-ingrained rock 'n' roll soul.

CHRISTINE LAVIN, MATINEE

Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
Christine Lavin's smart and funny take on contemporary life and foible make for a one-of-a-kind concert. As a songwriter, she brings the shrewd insight & wit of a humor columnist together with a novelist's eye for evocative details. While the title of her 19th solo album may sound like a disclaimer --I Don't Make This Stuff Up... I Just Make It Rhyme-- it is clear she's an expert on our days and our ways. Abundantly clever and unabashedly fond of a good laugh, she is fearless; opening her show to the audience in a way that ensures every concert is a one-off. Her music and her spontaneity are unequivocal departures from today's overly choreographed numbers and amped-up lyrics ...passing out recipes or goodie bags for people whose birthday falls during the holidays, drafting audience members onstage to join her for certain numbers and then improvising brilliant song ripostes as follow up.
