Friday 8:30 pm | ANGEL BAND Singer-Songwriter, Acoustic | Towne Crier Cafe 130 Route 22 Pawling, NY See Map |
Angel Band makes big noise. Loud noise. Boisterous, sad, sweet, goofy, glorious and angelic. Any which way you look at it this stuff gets your attention. Whether it's the crazy tight three part harmony, the killer backup playing, the stories, the passion or the compassion, it gets your attention. The songs on this album are mostly self-penned, weaving vivid images, powerful lyrics, musical integrity and "chops" to write home about. The love of the sound that three female voices make together is at the center of this group. The chord rules the day. When the three hit "it," the hair on the back of your neck's gonna stand up. The difficult to pigeonhole sound that emanates from the band roams from old time "mountain" music to contemporary rock and roll influenced originals. Any way you slice it this band catches hold of you and won't let go. More info at the Towne Crier Cafe

The Battlefield Band perform a music of rare passion & joy under the banner "Forward With Scotland's Past." Refusing to be limited musically by suffocating antiquarianism or the 'music business,' they have mixed the old songs with new self-penned material, playing them on a unique fusion of ancient and modern instruments - bagpipe, fiddle, synthesizer, guitar, cittern, flute, bodhran and accordion. In 2003, the Battlefield Band was honored with the very first Best Live Act award at the inaugural Scots Trad Music Awards. The awards celebrate Scotland's thriving traditional musical scene; the nominees chosen by a panel of Scotland's traditional music experts, and the winners chosen by popular public vote via post and email to the BBC, with voting open to audiences around the world. Still leading the way after 30 years! This will be your last chance to see this renowned band with its remaining founding member! More info at the Towne Crier Cafe
