The Ya Yas, Catherine Miles (vocals), Jay Mafale (acoustic guitar), Paul Silverman (piano)
Acoustic, Singer-Songwriter
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
A quirky blend of personalities and musical influences, the Ya Yas have been regulars on the Long Island music scene, performing in coffeehouses and cafes, local festivals, and private concert venues, toured 3 years with Dave Isaacs' country-roots band Jackalope Junction, and now call the Hudson Valley their home, where they are hard at work on their second album.

Seeing these three perform is like spending an evening with them in their living room - inviting, entertaining, and a little goofy. Their songs can range in feel from folk-pop to country-tinged to singer-songwriter-with-groove. What remains constant are well-crafted songs with deceptively simple lyrics about people you feel you might know, people who view themselves and the world with both honesty and compassion.

Enjoy a leisurely 2.5 mile guided nature walk exploring the preserve’s varied habitats. Migrant birds, late-season butterflies and dragonflies, and early fall colors on some of the preserve’s 35+ species of trees are some of the expected attractions at this time of the year. Meet 9:00 a.m. in the Saugerties Village Beach parking lot on Rte. 9W, just north of the Esopus Creek bridge, at the foot of Partition Street in the Village of Saugerties. Bring binoculars if you have them, and be prepared for potentially wet/muddy trails and tall grass in the meadow. Light rain often makes for excellent nature observation, but in case of heavy rain, the walk will be cancelled. Children are welcome and encouraged, but please do not bring pets.

This Esopus Bend Ramble, co-sponsored by the Hudson River Valley Ramble, is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is not required. Jazz
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
"The highlight September performance in Paris was tenor saxophonist Ray Blue. This former member of Sun Ra's Arkestra and student of Ornette Coleman set the Caveau des Oubliettes on fire…His music was fresh and captured the mind without straying away too long from the strongest groove." Downbeat Magazine

Ray's newest CD, "Berries and Blues" serves you the fruits of his music-a story is told by merging jazz, blues and African folk rhythms. The players chosen for this project are brilliant musicians who came together on the gig in Paris, with a chemistry and sound that was nothing less than exceptional.

Ray has preformed with Steve Turre, Eddie Henderson, Gary Bartz, T.K. Blue, Bob Gaddy, Wycliff Gordon and Benny Powell. He plays with The Spirit of Life Ensemble and tours with The Ray Charles Show.

The Ray Blue Sound is at once big and warm, dynamic and romantic, nostalgic and modern. It's "Blue Jazz". Hear it firsthand at his CD Release Party for "Berries & Blues".

A not-to-be-missed night of acoustics
with The Bereznak Brothers Band
Acoustic, Singer-Songwriter
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
This dynamic musical group is fronted by twin brothers, singer/songwriters Michael and David Bereznak. 3B seamlessly fuses together elements of 80's and 90's Rock, Heartland Rock, and current Pop/Rock. Their new CD, "ALL THINGS IN TIME", flawlessly uses their signature brand of vocal harmonies, tasteful guitar, and pop song-writing sensibility to create a "musical tour de force". Their timeless songs touch upon the issues of growing up in a small town, family strength, friendship, love, and loneliness. "If you were to mix up a little bit of The Indigo Girls, The Black Crowes, Grand Funk Railroad, The James Gang, and Bruce Springsteen in a bowl you would have the uniquely fresh sound that best describes The Bereznak Brothers Band both on CD and live on stage." The band also features Pete Peligri on drums and Martin Amidon IX on bass.

Outstanding vocals, outstanding harmony and outstanding guitar work. What more could you want?

Solas
Celtic, Acoustic, and Folk/Traditional
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
Solas has emerged as the most exciting band in traditional Irish music today, and a look at the resumes of each extraordinarily talented member of the band explains the power of their chemistry. The Philadelphia Inquirer Magazine says "Seamus Egan and Solas make mind-blowing Irish folk music, maybe the world's best," while the Los Angeles Times says "Solas offers a compellingly original, strikingly contemporary view of traditional Celtic sounds." Although Solas can play undiluted traditional Irish music as well as anyone alive or departed, they are always varying the mix of fire tested tradition and contemporary sensibility with an ease and naturalness that is as astonishing as their overwhelming musicianship. They transcend musical genres into the realm of pure musical expression that only a relative handful of musicians attain.
