Special Night: Singer/Songwriter Showcase
with Fred Gillen, Jr., Rebecca Loebe
Singer-Songwriter
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Gillen's musical influences range from Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie to Queen and Elton John. From James Brown and Stevie Wonder to The Clash and Johnny Cash. Gillen is a folk singer and a rocker, a roots musician and a modernist, as at home playing washboard or acoustic guitar as playing with drum loops and a whisk broom. Whatever the instruments and genre, he's always been attracted to music which is reckless and in-the-moment.

Tonight, Fred is joined by singer/songwriter Rebecca Loebe. On tour in the US and Europe the past few years, Becca has gotten rave reviews for her high-energy performances, weaving together skillful, emotional songwriting, folk storytelling and "whimsical comedy for the ADHD generation." At a very young age, she's already shared the stage with greats such as Mary Chapin Carpenter (at a 6,000 seat ampetheatre in Atlanta), Ellis Paul, Sophie B. Hawkins, Emerson Hart, Ellis Paul, Girlyman & The Bacon Brothers.

Grammy winner, Patti Austin’s sophisticated vocal technique has earned her acclaim in the fields of jazz, R&B and pop. On both the Grammy nominated recording, “For Ella,” and her live concert performances based on the album, Patti offers a dazzling tribute to Ella Fitzgerald. Instead of trying to mimic Ella, she has absorbed Ella’s vocal style into her own voice, and the result is an amazing synthesis. She rose to stardom with her chart-topping duet with James Ingram, “Baby Come to Me.” And her 2008 Grammy for “Avant Gershwin,” was her ninth Grammy nomination.

Recently dubbed Westchester's best songwriter/original band following the positive critical reception of their new CD Saturday Night Coffee, and riding a growing wave of enthusiasm for the new single and video Get America Working, the Kevin Kane Band looks poised to start flying way above the radar. Critics are particularly complimentary of the band's full range of song styles -- catchy riff rock, lyrical melody lines, new country and blues, up tempo pop and a three part harmony folk -- feel reminiscent of the original Newport Folk festival. That one band is so comfortable across such a wide and diverse musical spectrum makes them even more appealing live.

Tom Dowd is known for his lightning-fast guitar work, clear, soaring vocals and fresh, compelling arrangements that span Rock, Blues, R&B and Pop classics. The band features the inimitable Tom Dowd on vocals and lead guitar. And this man can PLAY guitar. With Pete McGregor on drums, Barry "Buzzy" Garriola on bass. Kevin McSweeney rhythm guitar, who provides the unshakable and perfectly-chosen solos that make each song a new classic... and Rene Carlson, one of the best harp players around (and one of very few female blues harp players) with her impressive energy & powerhouse solos. ... these guys ROCK!

Hear what the pros have to say about Buried in Blue: "If you want to catch an incredible live performance of Classic Rock, Pop and Blues with pitch-perfect vocals, powerful drums, and some hot Hendrix-style guitar, see these guys soon....Buried in Blue is buried in talent."

Since the last millennium the artistry of David Reed (aka Dr. Easy)has been earning respect from audiences and critics alike throughout the northeast USA, Europe and the Caribbean. A founding member of the seminal jam rock band, Max Creek in 1971, Reed has since developed into a delightful fingerstyle acoustic guitarist & multi-instrumentalist (ever heard a 'Reggae Banjo' or a conch shell 'TuTu'?), explorational singer/songwriter, way-cool whistler and seasoned performer. The good "Dakta" brings a smile to the face and a tap to the toe of young and old with his sensational blend of rockin' NewFolk, rompin' ragtime, snappy country blues, inspired original songs and wonderous interpretations of many other popular artists' songs . . . all served up with a dash of spicy, sun-drenched Caribbean reggae & calypso.
