Acoustic, Folk/Traditional, and Jazz. Americana, blues, rock, whatnot etc.
Rosendale Cafe
434 Main Street
Rosendale, NY   See Map
I love the Rosendale Cafe; they present world-class musicians and it's one of the few places I can go where I can order most anything they have on their menu!

What this is. Lifted from their site: "The Rosendale Cafe has been bringing notable performances to the area for 16 years. This more humble opportunity for local performances started with a very successful run of the Community Music Night, and the series has run on and off since fall 2007.

"The showcase has been a performance opportunity for both newly-established artists, and those that were outside the musical style of the Cafe's usual weekend bookings."

Rock (progressive)

Peekskill, NY   See Map
"Elegant yet raw, darkly emotional but also shot through with light, The Trapps new disc is full of surprising contrasts and casual beauty -- rangy, experimental roots-rock played with confidence and hope." - Jason Fine, Executive Editor, Rolling Stone Magazine

The Trapps are an American band that taps the roots of Americana, folk, and rock and roll, and wraps it all into a tightly-knit package that is entirely their own. Though their musical influences are far reaching, the greatest strength of the band is their commitment to the song - all at once they can grab you with powerful harmonies like the Jayhawks or rivet you with a high intensity jam like the Black Crowes. For The Trapps, the song is the law, and like the mountain climber, there are a great many ways to approach the ascent, but the thrill is to ultimately finish having learned something along the way.

Blues In A Bottle
Blues, Rock (classic), and Motown/R&B
Captain Cliffy's River Station
1 River St
Poughkeepsie, NY   See Map
"Blues In A Bottle's sound and energy pays homage to tradition, yet proves that the Blues is still and will always be relevant. As former rockers in a wide variety of bands from the 70's through the 90's, they re-discovered their rock roots in the blues and haven't looked back."

"Classic electric blues the way it's supposed to be played."

"Unlike a lot of so-called blues bands formed by former rockers, these guys have clearly listened up and taken their lessons and cues from the great masters."

Those influences include Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Junior Wells, & Elmore James to B.B, Freddie, and Albert King, to Otis and Ray Charles, Buddy Guy and Pine Top -- as well as such modern masters as Stevie Ray, Robert Cray, Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, and many others.

La Puerta Azul has rave reviews from the Poughkeepsie Journal, Chronogram, Hudson Valley Magazine, and many others. Come on out for the great food and atmosphere, then stay for the show!

With the fall release of her debut album Cozy Razor's Edge, Heather is quickly becoming known for her powerhouse performances, her highly original songwriting, her memorable melodies, her expressive vocals and evocative lyricism. Her debut album Cozy Razor's Edge will take you through the depths of the human experience. Maloney describes this record as her "heartfelt effort to integrate music and awareness, creativity and presence; the intention to dance along the line between sound and silence." The Seven Days said: “Read up enough on Massachusetts-based songwriter Heather Maloney’s debut disc Cozy Razor’s Edge and you’ll notice a curious critical conundrum unfold, as one bewildered scribe after another attempts to pin down her sound by invoking an eyebrow-raising range of presumed influences” "Maloney writes evocative music that urges peace and harmony and boasts full-bodied, knock you dead vocal" The Valley Advocate (Northampton MA)

Music Menu @ Mezzaluna
with Caleb Hawley, Stephanie Nilles
Pop/Soft Rock, Jazz
Cafe Mezzaluna
Route 212 west of town
Saugerties, NY   See Map
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Caleb Hawley has turned some heads with his choice to write and produce decidedly pop-influenced singer-songwriter music. But his success is undeniable with top awards like the John Lennon Songwriting Contest (‘09) and the New York Songwriter’s Circle contest (‘08, ‘09). Hawley is often compared to Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, and Raul Midon. He’s a charming, soft-spoken guitar virtuoso with a great big voice that can sing just about anything.

Stephanie Nilles performs her own political satire and 40's jazz/punk tunes, described by listeners as "Ella Fitzgerald on speed beating the s*** out of Regina Spektor"… She has performed at joints like Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, The Bitter End, The Cutting Room, WFMT's "Live from Studio One," NPR's "From the Top," and the Dame Myra Hess Series at the Chicago Cultural Center.

PETER TORK (of The MONKEES) & Shoe Suede Blues
Blues, Rock (50's-60's)
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
Shoe Suede Blues, featuring former "Monkee" Peter Tork, is a band of seasoned pros, delivering a heartfelt, soulful, uplifting and quite unforgettable mixture, divined from their vision of what music is all about. Long before The Monkees, Peter Tork was a well-respected musician/artist in the burgeoning New York folk scene. Peter's gift for playing a plethora of instruments generated high demand for his services as a sideman/back-up artist. Peter knocked around for several hungry years in the mid-'60s, 'hanging' and performing with the likes of John Phillips, Stephen Stills and Dave Van Ronk. The fateful call, which would change Peter's life forever, came in June of 1965: Friend and confidant Stephen Stills, not quite hitting the mark with his own audition for The Monkees TV series, rang his buddy Peter, urging him to give it a go. Music legend Jimi Hendrix jammed with Peter on several occasions, calling him "The most talented Monkee."

Classical/Opera
Storm King Art Center
Old Pleasant Hill Road
Mountainville, NY   See Map
Plaisir d’Amore (literally "The Joys of Love") was written in 1780 by Martini to a poem by Florian. Over the 230 years since its creation, a wide variety of musicians have interpreted this song: Berlioz arranged it for orchestra; Irene Dunne sang it in the 1939 film Love Affair; Joan Baez, Elvis Presley, and Emmylou Harris have all sung it. In today’s program, John Feeney interprets it on bass (with Andrew Appel on harpsichord) as a song without words, using a classical arrangement by Van Waefelghem as his starting point. The program also includes Baroque composers: Bach, Handel, Corelli, and Francois Couperin. Lawn seating.
