A charismatic singer and prolific songwriter, Red's songs are populated by hobos, flowers, telepathy, motherhood, eternity, war, peace, housework, reincarnation, insanity, rage, childhood, old age, rivers, oceans, stars and a few X boyfriends....
Red was born in New York City, but grew up in England. She cut her performing teeth playing clubs in Europe for ten years, before returning to the USA where she collaborated with the late producer Steve Burgh (John Prine, Willie Nelson, Steve Forbert), who produced her first album, "Water Planet", and introduced her to a family of East Coast folk and roots musicians, some of whom she still works with today.
Red disappeared for several years to raise 2 boys ("..I think I'm getting the hang of it now...").
She returned last year with a new Rebel Red album, "Sex, Religion, Politics", featuring guitarist Jeff Pevar (Ray Charles, Crosby, Stills and Nash) and saxophonist Erik Lawrence (Levon Helm).

The love theme runs deep in her music and even inspired her to start playing guitar. In her interview on lohud.com's The Listening Room, Cassandra said she began writing music "...to impress somebody--one of the guys I had a crush on--but that guy fell through, and the music lasted." | On a recent trip to upstate New York, Jon Fuller paid his respects at Uncle Sam's grave. Though he did not have a life-changing experience there, the character he created in his song "Uncle Sam's Grave" did, seeing the burial place of that iconic man as a rallying cry for action. Jon's songs are rarely diary entries, but rather tall tales- there is most likely a grain of personal experience within them, but it may be hard to find. Looking back at a relationship one day, Jon turned that thought quickly into a song about finding a time machine in his front yard (and the subsequent adventures finding such a machine would bring). Finding inspiration from acts as diverse as Billy Joel, Kate Bush and System of a Down, Jon takes them all and, through his upbeat attitude and clear voice, makes them his own.

 Bertha Hope - pianist, composer, arranger - has been an active force in improvised music since the early 60's. Her long association with pianist/composer Elmo Hope resulted in a host of recorded compositions and arrangements. She has performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Frank Foster, Nat Adderley and Philly Joe Jones, among others.
Bertha is the leader of "The Bertha Hope Trio", which has toured extensively throughout Japan. She is a composer and arranger with several recordings under her own name: "In Search of Hope" and "Elmo’s Fire" (Steeplechase); "Between Two Kings" (Minor Records) and her latest on the Reservoir label, "Nothin' But Love". She is also a member of the group Jazzberry Jam and has formed a working group called ELMOllennium through which she continues to present Elmo's music and to pay tribute to one of "be-bop's" underrated contributors.

 Award-winning jazz guitarist and composer Mark Tonelli brings his group, featuring vocalist Alexis Cole, to Backstage Studios in Kingston, NY on Saturday, May 8 at 8:00 p.m.
Tonelli and his group have been performing for two decades in such venues as NYC’s 55 Bar, the Ft. Worth Jazz Festival, the Howland Cultural Center, and the Dallas Museum of Art. Jazzreview.com says "Tonelli’s tone is pure and reminiscent of the legends... powerful straight-up jazz guitar.”
Cole is cited as "a rising star in the jazz world" by Hot House magazine. She has been featured on NBC’s NY Morning Show and in magazines Time Out NY, Downbeat, Jazz Times, Swing Journal, All About Jazz and many more.
Both artists have worked together extensively, developing a chemistry that has resonated with audiences and drawn enthusiastic response.

Pianist Mark Shane is our special guest this time around. Mark Shane’s jazz piano is firmly rooted in a tradition established by such piano masters as James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, Teddy Wilson, Count Basie, Earl Hines and Art Tatum. Mark Shane served an extended tenure as house pianist at Eddie Condon’s legendary jazz club in New York City. Shane has played with Benny Goodman, Buck Clayton, Buddy Tate and many other all star alumni from the great bands of Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller. it wiil be a real treat having him with us at High Falls on Tuesday.
