 I swear I am not making this up. According to an organization known as the AOBA (that'd be the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association) this very weekend has been designated National Alpaca Farm Days. Now, I don't think this was established by an act of congress or anything like that, but still. So, there is an alpaca farm known as Shalimar Alpacas of Warwick, and they (the folks who run the farm, actually--not the alpacas) have decided to participate in the festivities. And, furthermore, they (uh... the folks who run the farm) have given yours truly the honor of providing the soundtrack for the day. Well, for both days, in fact. It's rain or shine (shine would be nice, wouldn't it?). So, if you're curious, as I am, about how one might commemorate National Alpaca Farm Day, then it will behoove you to come and see what it's all about.

Admission to the grounds is free; there is a $20 per day fee for beer or wine tasting, which includes six tastings and a souvenir beer or wine glass.

 The fourth cantata in our 2009 Bach Cantata series, Kairos will present Bach's beautiful Cantata No. 8, Liebster Gott, wann werd ich sterben? with chamber orchestra. The concert will also feature a performance of Sonata Seconda (1641, published post.) by Giovanni Battista Fontana by violinist Marka Young and harpsichordist Mary Jane Corry. The cantata and sonata will be performed as part of a choral evensong service and admission is free. Supported in part by a grant from the Dutchess County Arts Council, administrator of public funds through NYSCA's Decentralization Program.

Steve Chizmadia is a 2003 Kerrville New Folk finalist. In 2005 his song "This Old Town" received honorable mention from the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival. He has showcased at Northeast Regional Folk Alliance in New York, and we look forward to his performance tonight.
Drew Bordeaux (pictured here) is a highly accomplished singer/songwriter and musician whose music comes from the heart. He performs soulful originals as well as cover songs. On occasion, Drew will treat us to his electric fiddle, for a unique sound that is truly inspirational. (As a wine bar, how could we not love a guy named Bordeaux?)
Ann Gulian is a keyboard player and singer with an amazing quality to her voice. Her vocals are strong and her songwriting is poignant and touching. Join us as we welcome these three gifted artists to our stage.

 She's been described as what Fiona Apple would have been had she grown up in the south and been given a guitar instead of a piano. Her bluesy Americana sound is both original and radio-friendly. No matter what you're in the mood for, Andi Rae is sure to satisfy.
Andi Rae is often asked how such a big voice comes out of such a little girl. Katie Agresta, her voice teacher and (coincidentally Ms. Lauper's teacher as well), has been helpful in that department. Katie is also the teacher to the likes of Jon Bon Jovi and Annie Lennox. But also, Andi says, "Just because I'm small doesn't mean I don't have a whole lot to say, and a lot of passion to say it with." Take a listen to one of her newest songs, "Ooh Ah," and you will know this is true.
You can find "Ooh Ah," a mixture of other gut-wrenching and inspiring songs, and Andi's powerful, sultry voice on "I Guess I Am a Sinner."

As singer-songwriters they recorded six albums and reached their commercial apex nationally with their rendition of the Yes classic "Your Move," which topped the Billboard charts and aired as a video on VH1.

 Arthur Hine, aka RT, has been a quiet background influence in American recorded music for over 40 years. Along the way he had a record company (Armtrac Records), managed one of the greatest unknown bands in history (Sneaky Cookin’), and wrote songs for various artists, such as Howie Wyeth and Marianne Faithful. Nothing seemed to ever gel with his ironic lyrics, catchy tunes and off beat rhythms.
A living legend and world renowned harmonica player, Woodstock artist Sredni Vollmer co-wrote and recorded the Philadelphia International hit song "No-Tell Motel" with Don Covey. He has recorded with Leslie West (Mountain), Rick Danko, Kinky Freedman, Colin Linden and many others. Sredni performed on stage with The Band, Hot Tuna, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and Bob Dylan, and has been a member of groups like the Woodstock Mountains Revue and Sunshine and the Flashbacks.

 Elana Goren's art creates a visual story that compels the viewer to look beyond the obvious and delve into the reality of a subject's situation, and reveals the innate character of the individual. Her newest exhibit, Before they Disappeared from the Farm, is a visual mastery in both technique and emotion and will show at the BRC Gallery in Peekskill from Sunday September 27 through November 14, 2009. Artist's reception on Sat, Oct 3, 3-6 pm.
Goren's work exists in a variety of mediums including oil paintings as well as charcoal and pastel drawings but more recently she has worked predominantly in printmaking, specifically etching. In Goren's hands, the lush quality of ink pressed into the paper's surface is wide ranging from delicate fine lines to strong solid masses of black. Her use of an experimental and unique aquatint technique that she has developed gives a soft, yet moody quality that contrasts nicely with the precision of the traditionally etched lines. |

 Two Guitars - Brian Conigliaro and Gus Wieland perform live at the BeanRunner Cafe. Music veterans Conigliaro and Wieland will play a great acoustic mix of blues and jazz fusion, and original tunes. Their guitars weave an intricate story around the lyrics. Add to all this vocal harmonies and Brian's virtuoso harmonica playing, for an evening of great live music.
Brian & Gus have been in the music business on both coasts and have also done many commercials. This eclecticism brings a wise and experienced mastery to Two Guitars. Acoustic exotic arrangements of well known songs as well as originals & obscure nuggets, garner their sets and guitar interplay with uncanny perception for one another. Introspective in theme, majestic in performance.” Sing Out! - Born in Cameroon, Kaissa and her family moved to Paris when she was 13 and she has recently relocated to New York where her solo career has soared. She has toured with such luminaries as David Byrne, Casaria Evora, Manu Dimbago, Jean-Michel Jarre and Diana Ross. In 2001 Kaïssa won "Best African Female Vocalist" from US African Eye magazine and in 2004, SONY South Africa released her debut solo album. In 2008, she was invited by Paul Simon, along with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Luciana Souza and Vusi Mahlasela, to perform at his BAM retrospective “Under African Skies.” Today, she is being called “The Voice of the New Africa.”

 Mose Allison has created a musical territory all his own, wrapping complex piano improvisations around vocals that are at once low-key and red-hot. This Mississippi-born musician and composer names Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, and John Lee Hooker among his influences, but today's younger pop stars salute his impact on their own work. Mose has recorded more than 20 albums, and his sets feature classic blues and jazz standards as well as his own material. Mose continues to win new fans of every generation. Robert Palmer of the New York Times says that Mose Allison's music "defies description because it cuts across the boundaries that conventionally separate mainstream jazz, the avant-garde, blues & swing, and because it is in a continuing process of evolution." Through it all, Mose remains highly accessible, witty, and entertaining. It is a privilege to bring him to our stage again.
