Friday
8:30 pm
Falcon Ridge Emerging Artist
with Jason Spooner Trio, Cupéro
Bodles Opera House
39 Main Street
Chester, NY   See Map
The ingredients behind northern New England's Jason Spooner Trio read like a bizarre musical science experiment. Start with a prolific, singer/songwriter (Jason Spooner) with heavy roots, folk & blues influences then mix in a classicly-trained bassist (Adam Frederick) with foundations in jazz and a knack for serious pocket grooves. Lastly, shake things up with a rock-solid drummer (Reed Chambers) with deep-seeded roots in funk, soul & reggae and you've begun to scratch the surface of this unique, energetic band.

Opening the show: Of the numerous striking qualities of Cupéro, the 19-year-old singer/songwriter and rocker, it's the commanding presence of her voice and songs that sets her apart. Cupéro sings with a maturity and sense of permanence that belies her youth and the relatively short amount of time that she has been in the New York music scene.

Restoration Lullaby
with Scott Urgola , Rachel Sukert
Alternative/Indie/Folk
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Restoration Lullaby is the debut album by Alternative/Indie/Folk, Singer/Songwriter Scott Urgola. All recording was done at Woody’s House in Croton-On-Hudson, NY in early June 2006. These songs reflect a range of experience from his cross-country travels, to everyday day life in a constantly changing world. Each track is an easy to swallow dose of realism that stays true to Urgola as a live performer.

Urgola's voice has that Dylan backslide, that who-o-o- which slides from note to note, unclean but sometimes necessary to the feel of the song; his lyrics on the whole paint the picture with germane brush stroke; his music so indisputably part of who he is...- Review by Frank Gutch Jr. of the Folk and Acoustic Music Exchange

Peekskill, NY   See Map
You can't help but get up and dance to this band!!! Jerry and the "Brothers" are one of the tightest, coolest, funky-est, baddest bands around. Whatever you do, do not miss this performance. Jerry's an accomplished singer, songwriter and bass player, influenced by the Blues and Country Music. His entree into the NYC Blues scene was by way of the now infamous Dan Lynch Blues Bar, running the Saturday afternoon jam session there. This little bar became the hub of the Blues scene in NYC. Jerry calls his time there "an education that could not be replicated." His band is comprised of a lighting-fast guitarist, killer drummer and a keyboard player who also wails on the sax.

"My mission is to write and sing great songs. A great song can touch you the way nothing else can. A great song can take complex issues and break them down so everyone can understand them." Well said, Jerry.

Friends and Family of Maureen Odenwald, a 1980 graduate of Onteora Central High School, are hosting a Benefit Concert and Silent Auction on Sunday, August 2, 2009, from 12 to 6 pm at Davis Park in West Shokan, New York, to raise funds to offset the medical costs related to a recurrence of breast cancer. Maureen had her second mastectomy in April and is awaiting two further surgeries later this summer. Please come and out and support our friend at this great day of music, fellowship and feasting; you may not know Maureen, but we bet you know someone just like her—hardworking, responsible, bill paying, fun loving, and unable to keep up with the rising cost of medical insurance-- exactly when she needs it most. We know that Breast Cancer can happen to anyone of us, and that the rising cost of medical insurance is keeping all of us humble. Suggested donation for the day is $25 for adults, $10 for kids, children under 5 are free.
