Jenny Collins brings her textured voice and innovative songwriting to the band’s distinctly mature sound. Rich and clear as honey, her vocals add depth and character to songs she’s written and delightfully balanced harmony to duets. Zachary Collins has played the guitar since he was 6 and wrote his first song at the age of 11. His influence on the band’s signature songs sets the scene for the melancholy and euphoric temperament. James White plays percussion with an inherent resonance as he travels easily between traditional drum kit to bongos and simple percussives.

Anthony DaCosta

"Everything Red Molly sings is delivered with tick-tight arrangements, crystalline vocals, and caramel harmonies. But what is most striking is the ardor they bring to everything they do, whether snuggling into the sweet parochialism of an old spiritual, or the gritty pathos of a Gillian Welch tune. They come on less like stars strutting for their minions than pals sharing their favorite songs. In the friendly world of the coffeehouse, that remains a starmaking quality."
-Scott Alarik, The Boston Globe

Acoustic, Irish (traditional)

40 West Market Street
Red Hook, NY   See Map
Cavanaugh & Kavanaugh perform original songs and tunes on guitars, mandolin, fiddle, mountain dulcimer, banjo and more. Much of the traditional music Deb and Dick perform is in the Irish and Southern Old Time tradition. They also perform original songs and tunes. Life partners, as well as musical partners, who coincidentally share the same last name, they enjoy performing together and sharing their stories and songs with an audience. A subtle blend of ethnicity, humor and more, they bring their varied experiences to life on the stage. Caffe Lena has described them as follows: “this … duo, who just happen to share the same last name in pronunciation if not spelling, have been a long time part of the Capital District music scene…talented multi-instrumentalists (banjo, guitar, piano, mandolin, dulcimer, limber jack) who share a commitment to music as a way of life.”

Singer/Songwriter Showcase
with Sheri Miller, Abby Payne, Diane Cricchio
Singer-Songwriter
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Three solo performers take their turn on stage in 30-minute sets, twice around.

Sheri Miller (pictured here on her CD "Mantra") has been described as "hypnotic bluesy American soul meets classic British melodic-pop." Her vocals and guitar work are as original as her songwriting. She's been heard on 107.1 The Peak. Come listen to songs from her CDs up close and personal.

Abby Payne has a distinctive, beautiful voice and a soft, soothing touch on the keyboard. Her wonderfully creative original songs will move you. Our favorite is "Green". Her influences include Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, David Bowie, Billie Holiday, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell... and on and on.

Diane Cricchio is new to our Singer/Songwriter stage. Better known to 12 Grapes fans as "Duchess Di" of Duchess Di & the Distractions, Diane actually started her singing career writing and singing acoustic songs. Tonight, we look forward to seeing the softer side of Diane.

AWB are widely regarded as one of the best soul and funk bands in the history of music. Though perhaps best known for their timeless instrumental mega-hit 'Pick Up the Pieces' the band's strength actually lies in their consistently accomplished song-writing, stretching across several gold selling albums and multi- grammy nominations for the legendary Atlantic Records.

Moving to NYC in 1980 John has performed and recorded in a wide variety of formats both as a leader and a sideman. As an accompanist John has worked with Peggy Lee, Sylvia Syms, Rosemary Clooney, Mark Murphy, and Tony Bennett as well as live performances with contemporary instrumentalists George Mraz , Tom Harrell, John Abercrombie, and Red Mitchell to name just a few. In 1997. John's guitar style utilizes a finger-style technique that approaches the guitar like a piano. For John the challenge of comping chord fragments and playing melodies simultaneously provides a backdrop for a more open style of playing and improvising. His latest project "Time Will Reveal" (UnderhillJazz 003) , produced by bassist David Finck, showcases his melodic full-toned guitar style in an acoustic latin jazz setting featuring pop material largely from the 70's

Singer-songwriter Gary Levitt has a solid take on the balance between rural naif and urban hipster that's at the root of the current alt-folk scene, but for all the acoustic guitars and simple musical settings of the third Setting Sun album, he's no Devendra Banhart type of modern flower child. Levitt (who basically is Setting Sun, although Erica Quitzow, adds cello, violin, drums and vocals) has far more in common with Destroyer's Dan Bejar: the 11 songs on Children of the Wild use not only vintage psych and folk-rock as musical touchstones, but the melodramatic likes of Scott Walker and Hunky Dory-era David Bowie, as well as sophisticated '80s college rockers like Prefab Sprout and the Go-Betweens. Moods range from the giddy, strummy pop rush of "Overjoyed" to the whispered tension of "Not Waste," with room for the folkish delicacy of "Morning Song" as well as the trippy edge of the Beck-like single "No Devil Me No More," with the boyish charm

Tonight, we'll be featuring -- O.K., let's face it, even though it's a coffeehouse, we're NOT playing anything where you NEED a cup of coffee just to stay awake. We're claiming some floor space, rolling in the amps and drum kit, plugging in, and making sure there's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on -- so don't say we didn't give you advance notice, Ichizuka. Furthermore . . . you will have a good time.

An all-ages show, nice for those who prefer a non-alcoholic environment. NO COVER

And of course, we raise our collective coffee cups to toast and give a special thank-you to the New Paltz Muddy Cup for their continuing support of our music.
