To help us celebrate our Indepencence Day, we welcome back our British friends: the STRAWBS! Unique among early '70s Progressive Rock bands, this pioneering outfit actually came from a '60s English Folk background and successfully merged the two genres. The group enjoyed commercial success in the US and UK with songs like Lay Down, Part Of The Union, and Down By The Sea, and has showcased a fine array of British musicians over the years, including keyboardist Rick Wakeman (prior to joining Yes). The Strawbs continue to be led by founder/singer/songwriter Dave Cousins, hailed by the All Music Guide as possibly "the most talented Dylan-influenced songwriter to come out of England." Doors 8pm; Show At 9pm

In late 2003, Fountains Of Wayne received a flattering, but rather puzzling, "Best New Artist" Grammy nomination (one of two categories in which they were named that year). This certainly made long-time fans chuckle; those in the know knew that Welcome Interstate Managers, the albumthat spawned the ubiquitous "Stacy's Mom" and topped critics' polls everywhere, was actually the New York-based group's third collection of melodic pop/rock gems. And far from being a flash in the pan, the quartet was considered by many to be -- in the words of Robert Christgau - "peerless" and "true art heroes", or as Entertainment Weekly called them, "America's greatest extant rock and roll band." But FOW couldn't help enjoying the new-found attention as they began headlining bigger venues, topping charts on MTV and VH1, and appearing on a "Now That's What I Call Music" compilation CD next to the likes of Jay-Z, Nickelback and Black Eyed Peas.

Accomplished New York sax player, vocalist, and songwriter Jay Collins brings his Brooklyn-based Kings County Band to the Bearsville Theater.

One of the most sought-after musicians in the jazz, rock, and blues arenas, Collins is a familiar fixture as a longtime member of both the Levon Helm Band and Gregg Allman & Friends. Jay is also known for his saxophone and flute work with the Allman Brothers Band, Andrew Hill, James Hunter, Jacky Terrasson, Bobby Sanabria, and the late LeRoy Vinnegar.

Now a Woodstock resident, Jay uses his gritty, unique voice and his bluesy horn to mix up blues, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and funky New Orleans style into a modern patchwork of roots-bound sound. His band’s flights of improvisation, though, as well as their musical attitude, could have only been inspired by jazz.

Bonnie Raitt said "Maia is making some of the most innovative and soulful music around with songs that are head and shoulders above the rest. She has become one of my favorite artists." Maia has seen more than two dozen of her songs recorded by artists that run the gamut of genres, from chart-topping pop artists to Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame-ers, including Bonnie Raitt, The Dixie Chicks, Art Garfunkel, Trisha Yearwood, David Wilcox, Cher and Kathy Mattea. Sharp has also collaborated with Carole King, Jules Shear, David Wilcox, Lisa Loeb and many more.

Gil Parris is one of very few artists to have nationally released albums in over four different genres: R&B, smooth jazz, traditional jazz and blues. Gil is currently slated at # 1 on Music Choice -- America's top cable radio channel -- with "Duck Walk," a blues-funk duet with Randy Brecker from his new album Strength. Gil toured as lead guitarist for Blood, Sweat & Tears, and has played with pop & jazz legends such as David Sanborn, Bob James, Will Lee, Eric Alexander, Bob Malach, David Clayton-Thomas, Toni Braxton, Chuck Rainey to name but a few. Gil performs at many prestigious NYC clubs like BB King's.

"A dazzling mixture of jazz, light funk, and even country, Parris' playing is so hot it avoids any cliches from those styles." -Vintage Guitar Magazine. We're honored to present Gil once again here at 12 Grapes.
