Henry Hudson and the Half Moon is about the voyage made by Henry Hudson in 1609. In that year Hudson, under contract to the Dutch East India Trading Company, sailed from Amsterdam northward towards the pole to search for a northeasterly route to china. Against orders, Hudson changed course and sailed westward to search for the passage. After crossing the Atlantic Ocean, the ship eventually arrived at the mouth of the Hudson River. Hoping for the possibility of a passage, Hudson decided to explore this river, later named after him. The river was navigable up to the point where Albany now lies. There Hudson was forced to end the expedition. Because of breach of contract, he didn't dare return to Amsterdam and so sailed to England where other adventures followed. The six performers are all from the Netherlands, and perform their original songs in Dutch and English.

with Marc Von Em, Kathleen Pemble, Todd Giudice
Acoustic, Singer-Songwriter
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
A unique spin on our Songwriter Showcase, three talented acoustic artists team up "in the round" for an incredible evening of song. The artists are: MARC VON EM (pictured here), who recently performed with the Rob Thomas Band on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and will be touring with Rob again in the Fall. One reviewer writes: "...I can genuinely say if you haven't heard or seen him live, you are only cheating yourself." ... KATHLEEN PEMBLE, who's been featured on WFUV's New Music Mondays, and was the Winner of The New York City Song Slam. "Winning melodies in the folk-pop vein delivered with strong, supple vocals made Ms. Pemble's music compelling." - The New York Times ... TODD GIUDICE, a songwriter whose songs "sound like the chart-topping classics you've been singing half your life." Todd performs around the Hudson Valley and in popular NYC clubs, and his songs are receiving playtime on prominent radio stations in the area.

Naked will perform a special acoustic show... Half Naked. Performers will include; Julia Nichols, Chris Zalloom, Ben Vita, David Malachowski, Frank Ganci, Johnny Watson and maybe even Paul Mc Mahon. Alchemy (formerly the Petersen House) was once owned by Albert Grossman, the founder of the famed Bearsville Studios and the president of Bearsville Records, where Todd Rundgren was the star producer. Grossman was the manager of several legendary artists, including Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, The Band, Peter Paul and Mary, Happy and Artie Traum and countless others. (Happy Traum is playing at Alchemy on June 20th.) Our bar was a favorite hangout for these and many other Woodstock musicians. Alchemy—a coffeehouse, bookstore, gallery, and showcase performance venue-- is a space for celebrating the spirit of creativity and artistic expression. Formed in Sleepy Hollow, New York in the late 90's, Gandalf Murphy & the Slambovian Circus of Dreams is one of the best known and loved bands in their home state, singled out as Hudson Valley Magazine's "Band of the Year" for the past 3 years. On stage they create an enchanting atmosphere, using traditional folk instruments, tasty electric guitar and the distinctive singing and songwriting of Joziah Longo. Citing influences as diverse as Hank Williams, Dylan, Bowie, Incredible String Band and early Pink Floyd, Longo describes the band's music as "punk-classical-hillbilly-Floyd", a mental rollercoaster of whimsical, thought-provoking songs.

SLAID CLEAVES, also guest The YaYas
Singer-Songwriter
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
Slaid Cleaves' bio, written with humble but poetic economy by the artist himself, neatly sums up everything you really need to know about the man: "Slaid Cleaves. Grew up in Maine. Lives in Texas. Writes songs. Makes Records. Travels around. Tries to be good." Anyone who has heard him perform would testify that he certainly succeeds at being good in one sense: He most definitely is a good musician! Slaid's music is marked by both the quirky blend of isolated eccentricity & steely resilience of his Yankee upbringing, and the weathered soul of Texas, the state he has called home for over a decade now. First registering on the national folk scene by winning the Kerrville Folk Festival's New Folk competition in 1992, Cleaves released his national debut No Angel Knows in 1997, following a string of self-released albums and many nights logged in folk clubs as both a performer and a soundman.

Tonight, we'll be featuring -- O.K., let's face it, even though it's a coffeehouse, we're NOT playing anything where you NEED a cup of coffee just to stay awake. We're claiming some floor space, rolling in the amps and drum kit, plugging in, and making sure there's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on -- so don't say we didn't give you advance notice, Ignacious. Furthermore . . . you will have a good time.

An all-ages show, nice for those who prefer a non-alcoholic environment. NO COVER

And of course, we raise our collective coffee cups to toast and give a special thank-you to the New Paltz Muddy Cup for their continuing support of our music.

This is what happens when a talented singer/songwriter/ multi-instrumentalist taps into the deep roots of American music with a pop sensibility to create original music that is as entertaining as it is sincere and heartfelt.

Raised on classical, pop, folk, and rock music in historic Wethersfield, Connecticut (one of the hippest places to be in the 1600’s), Frances Kramer was trained on piano and oboe and self-taught on guitar, banjo, and voice. After making an escape from Bryn Mawr College, she found herself singing country and folk tunes and playing the banjo for a meager living followed by singing and playing guitar in rock bands for no living. While living in a converted school bus camper in the northeast corner of the state, she began to compose poetry and to write songs and instrumental music.

Doors At 7pm; Show At 8pm

Tickets $25

When Julian Lage emerged on the music scene 13 years ago, the young San Francisco Bay Area-based musician was not only deemed a guitar-playing prodigy, but he was also offered record deals on numerous occasions. Playing a unique style that melded blues, classical, folk and jazz influences, Lage decided to wait for the right moment to document his own music.

He chooses instead to become a sideman with established instrumentalists like Gary Burton and to collaborate with contemporaries such as pianist Taylor Eigsti. Along the way, Lage received recognition from musical luminaries, including Herbie Hancock and Béla Fleck, and patiently waited until he was ready to go into a studio with a band of like-minded players to realize his own musical vision.

Chicago Blues artist Melvin Taylor plays with the skill and virtuosity of guitar greats such as Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix. His unique style of blending Blues, Jazz and Rock are something to witness. "His execution of lightening speed runs, infused with jazz embellishments reminiscent of Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Jimi Hendrix and Kenny Burell are mind boggling." So true.

Speaking of George Benson, he just happens to be playing the Paramount the very same night Melvin will be at 12 Grapes. Last summer, Patti LaBelle's band made a cameo appearance at 12 Grapes and played onstage with Melvin... it was unforgettable. Who knows what surprise awaits us this time!
