Led by saxophonist and Mahopac High School Band Director Rich Williams, the Secret Organ Trio's sound is rooted in the great American tradition of Hammond organ based jazz groups. The group plays soul jazz, a groove-infused style of jazz that incorporates blues, gospel and rhythm & blues. The sound is reminiscent of the great organ trios of the 1960's with some modern and original elements thrown in as well. The result is a fun atmosphere that moves people makes everyone feel good.

Wallkill, NY   See Map
Joshua Morris began performing classical music at an early age with his father, mother, brother and sister, he began performing around the south, and the Morris Family became well known for their beautiful Irish harmonies. Later, Joshua expanded his musical repertoire to include rock and roll, drawing on his classical and Irish background, and with his band Sinclair, released the album Stories of this Land in 2002. Joshua recorded and produced the 2004 Morris Family release Farewell to Summer.

After moving to Beacon, NY in 2008, Joshua has continued his musical ambitions, melding his voice, violin and guitar into a solo act adept in both faithful traditional tunes as well as improvised original work.

Joshua currently designs recording studios and other acoustically-sensitive spaces for Walters-Storyk Design Group in Highland, NY.

We're claiming some floor space, rolling in the amps and drum kit, plugging in, and making sure there's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on -- so don't say we didn't give you advance notice, Irwin. Furthermore . . . you will have a good time.

An all-ages show, nice for those who prefer a non-alcoholic environment. NO COVER

And of course, we raise our collective coffee cups to toast and give a special thank-you to the New Paltz Muddy Cup for their continuing support of our music.

M Shanghai String Band CD Release Of The Mapmaker'
Bluegrass
Bearsville Theater
291 Tinker St
Woodstock, NY   See Map
Tickets $10

While remaining firmly in the folk-American tradition, "The Mapmaker's Daughter" keeps one foot in the modern backyard, with songs of city lonliness (Same Old Moon), alien abduction (Meteor Storm), heavenly inebriation (Angel Full of Bourbon), and the benefits of single life (Corny Love Song). The album's higher fidelity still manages to capture the raw, all-acoustic energy that we've come to expect from the M Shanghai mob, known to gather around a single microphone Grand Ole Opry-style. "Mapmakers" is testimony to their years of perfoming together- they have the agility of a five-piece, yet the grandiosity of a small acoustic orchestra.

renowned Irish world-music singer/songwriter, Susan McKeown, with Lorin Sklamberg, lead singer of the Grammie-winning Klezmatics, the groundbreaking klezmer superstars who erupted from New York’s East Village in 1986 and revitalized klezmer for the new century -- present songs from their new collaborative album, Saints & Tzadiks: songs from the Yiddish & Irish.

Following on their GRAMMY-winning work on The Klezmatics' album 'Wonder Wheel: Lyrics by Woody Guthrie', Susan McKeown & Lorin Sklamberg join forces again to present a vocal exploration of the Yiddish and Irish traditions. The results are surprising, and fun. Culled from rare archive material and old recordings, McKeown and Sklamberg have selected songs on various themes from the Jewish and Irish traditions: love, death, betrothal, betrayal and the demon drink, as well as cumulative and macaronic songs are represented.
