Paul Sachs
Acoustic, Folk/Traditional
Taste Budd's Chocolate and Coffee Cafe
40 West Market Street
Red Hook, NY   See Map
Paul Sachs writes urban acoustic/folk songs grounded in the tradition of Springsteen and Harry Chapin. He was born and raised on the Lower East Side of New York City and that's where he draws most of his material. Sachs survived a tough life and lived to tell the tale through songs. Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and Springsteen are the songwriters that influenced him, got under his skin, and pushed him into the folk music circles of the city. His songs soon caught the attention of Jack Hardy and other area performers, and he was featured in Fast Folk Musical Magazine. One of his songs was eventually selected for inclusion in the Smithsonian Fast Folk collection. He has recorded two independent albums, both featuring often raw and seeringly personal songs of life and love on the mean streets. His fingerstyle guitar work and powerful voice combine to create mesmerizing vignettes of the city that has been the backdrop of his life.

Three solo performers take their turn on stage in 30-minute sets, twice around. This evening we present Sheri Miller, Ann Gulian and Cassandra Frake.

Sheri (pictured here on her CD "Mantra") lives in NYC. Her voice and guitar work is described as "hypnotic bluesy American soul meets classic British melodic-pop." All we know is we love it.

Ann is an excellent keyboard player and has a powerful and pleasing voice. When Ann sings, the audience sits up and takes notice.

Cassandra's voice is soft, sweet and moving. Featured in the Listening Room on http://lohud.com/listeningroom, they say she "Has a voice like Jewel with a touch of Jazz."

Join us for a bite to eat, a glass of wine and some great music. Sit back on the couches, relax and enjoy our Singer/Songwriter Sunday.

This workshop is nonpartisan and does not require you to have voted for Obama. The expectation, however, is that you will channel your feelings and concerns about the new President in a positive direction. Didn't find your favorite musician or venue? Let them know about it! We depend on musicians and venues to keep this calender current. It costs them nothing to advertise here, so tell them you were looking for them on HVmusic.com. Thanks.
