Tonight, we'll be featuring -- O.K., let's face it, even though it's a coffeehouse, we're NOT playing anything where you NEED a cup of coffee just to stay awake. We're claiming some floor space in the Studio, rolling in the amps and drum kit, plugging in, and making sure there's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on -- so don't say we didn't give you advance notice, Humberto. Furthermore . . . you will have a good time.

We've brought together some very diverse and tuneful friends to join us tonight -- a little something for everyone, just because we don't want disappointed patrons swamping our customer service hotline on a Saturday night [!]. An all-ages show, $5.00 COVER !

And of course, we raise our collective coffee mugs to toast and give a special thank-you to the Muddy Cup(s) for their continuing support of our music [and ALL local music].

WOODSTOCK PHIL FEST: Celebration of the Music & Activism of PHIL OCHS
with The Flames of Discontent, Journey Blue Heaven, Slink Moss Orchestra, Chris Ruhe, Bob Lusk, Marina Mati, Woodstock Women in Black
Acoustic, Alternative. Protest Song
The Colony Cafe
22 Rock City Road
Woodstock, NY   See Map
Join us for the 3rd annual Woodstock celebration of the protest song's grandest voice---Phil Ochs. Performers will offer some of Ochs greatest songs as well as some original pieces inspired by him. In addition to the musicians, poet Marina Mati will recite and the Woodstock Women in Black will speak. This year's Phil Fest will be dedicated to our lost sister Jane Van de Bogart, a stalwarth activist in Woodstock and the surrounding area and the founder of Woodstock Women in Black.

Phil Ochs was a powerful singer who offered a musical voice to the civil rights, anti-war and labor movements of the 1960s and early 70s. His presence at such important events as the miners' labor battles in Kentucky, the Freedom Rides to the deep south and the 1968 Chicago Democratic Convention brought him to the heart of the struggle. He was a champion of social justice. The Woodstock Phil Fest recalls and celebrates Ochs' music and activism. Host: John Pietaro, musician and labor organizer.

LEON REDBONE
Acoustic, Americana
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
Although Leon Redbone's iconic guise of white fedora, jacket and dark sunglasses has been thoroughly satirized, it's easy to overlook what a genuinely gifted artist he remains. His love affair with tunes from the turn-of-the-19th/20th-century, flapper-era radio ditties, depression-spawned ragtime and WWII folk-jazz is as contagious as a good giggle. Opportunities for this unlikely figure to impose himself on pop culture have been plentiful: his network debut on Saturday Night Live in 1976, making him a cult classic; the wise, animated snowman in Elf (his duet on Baby, It's Cold Outside served as the picture's theme song); TV title tunes to Mr Belvedere and Harry & The Hendersons; the homespun beer jingle This Bud's for You; the Getting To Know You voice on a series of Chevrolet ads; etc. It's easy to get lost in his stage exploits, and overlook what a truly fine player he is -- fingerpicking with a ragtime bounce or jumping between chords with the grace of a card sharp.

Adrian Legg, John SheehanBodles Opera House
39 Main Street
Chester, NY   See Map
Impossible to categorize as a player, Adrian Legg incorporates virtually every genre on his guitar in a virtuosic instrumental style with effects. He brought electric approaches to acoustic playing, creating a modern cross-over amalgamation in the tradition of eclectic folk playing that goes back to the 1960s." - Guitar by Richard Chapman, 2000

"There are guitarists, there are axe-wielding maniacs, and then there are wizards. Adrian Legg is one of the wizards. He has enough technique to do just about anything he wants, but also the sensitivity to honour the contours of a melody." - Philadelphia Enquirer, Aug. 5, 2000

Voted "Guitarist of the Decade" by Guitarist magazine. Guitar Player's Reader's Poll Winner for Best Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitarist for 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996

Opening the show: John Sheehan is a multi styled Composer/Finger Style Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter from Ringwood, NJ. . He is a steadfast proponent of the solo finger style guitar performance, whether it be a Festival performance, small stage, a house concert, party, Restaurant or bar. Three of John's compositions have been used as backdrops for videos: "Old Mill Rag", a TV/Cinema ad for "Sky Digital in the UK, "Buggy Ride", in a short film on safety called "The Eddie Adams Tragedy", released by the Weyerhauser Corporation and Rocket- Pictures of Seattle Washington and "Cliffs of Moher" for a promotional film for the Emily Williston Memorial Library of Easthampton, Massachusetts. Antje Duvekot is a German-born, American-raised singer-songwriter who has risen to the top of the competitive Boston singer-songwriter scene, and is now attracting national attention, including XM and Sirius satellite radio, Fox, ABC, NECN TV, and National Public Radio. "...terrific writer and singer, with the instincts to do things right, over and over and over." -Dave Marsh, Rolling Stone; "When I first heard Antje I knew I was witnessing something very special. She creates an entire, detailed world in verse, and takes you there with beautiful and understated melody. Her songs are stunning paintings of color and shade and always generate the heat and light that real art should." -Neil Dorfsman, producer of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Dire Straits

Natalia Zukerman has a sound that's strong, yet delicate, gentle yet insistent. Call it folk if you want, but there's jazz in it, too ...and blues ...and a soulful something-or-other that you can't quite put into words.

Three Johns and a Katie. No, this is not what you might think. Actually it happens to be the first names of an exciting new New York based band playing "Authentic American Music" for a new generation of country and rock fans. The band's name is taken from an old time amplifier company "Coppersonic". Warm harmonies, feel good melodies and first rate musicianship combined with great songwriting makes Coppersonic a must see (and hear) act. There is no cover for this performance, your geberosity is always appreciated.
