Folk/Traditional
Unison Arts Center
68 Mt. Rest Rd.
New Paltz, NY   See Map
Two Hudson Valley singer/songwriters with radiant talent and totally different sounds. Kelleigh McKenzie delivers smart songs in a bewitching blend of earthy old-time, modern folk and wicket blues, her voice swooping and souring over both banjo and fingerstyle guitar. Chronogram magazine says of Sarah Perrotta: "Her voice is smooth as vanilla pudding and lulling as warm liquid velvet...a first listen may call to mind shades of Naalie Merchant, though Perrotta remains completely original, exceedingly sophisticated in her writing."

EILEN JEWELL BAND
Singer-Songwriter, Country, and Roots Music
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
Eilen Jewell's stage presence and the easy slide of her voice suggest the lifetime experience of a country torch singer from the '40s, having another go 'round in a fresh, new body. Her songs come on like the nakedness of a thunderstorm after a sultry day: "You show me the well, but you don't let me drink." When she hisses that she's "Too Hot to Sleep," you know she ain't talking about the weather, and you know exactly why she's "going some place where they never say your name." Eilen's heart-achingly hushed style and intimate grasp of roots music's wild graces are set to a swaying, irrepressible groove by her band, evoking classic country, folk and swing without feeling nostalgic. The Boston Globe also celebrates "The slow organic sway of her melodies, and the sensual way she rubs against the low end of her register..."

Governor's Tavern
26 East High Street
East Hampton, 06424, CT   See Map
It's an out-of-state date for us. We hear they serve one serious subpoeña colada.

We're expanding The Rhodes' colonies and bringing our brand of Retro-Rock-n-Roll to the Constitution State. So stop by Governor's Tavern for good food and fun times. It's a Traditional Irish Tavern that used to be called Onnel’s Tap Room, but it has been under new ownership since earlier this year [hmm . . .]. They’re located near Lake Pocotopaug, right next to the Town Hall. Politicians are welcome to stop in; we'll show you how to do the Shake Down with us!

Stay tuned for late breaking news updates.

In the '60s, she joined John Sebastian & Steve Katz to form the Even Dozen Jug Band, and soon joined the Jim Kweskin Jug Band, appearing on 5 albums with the group. After 2 albums with her husband Geoff, she went solo, releasing the gold record MIDNIGHT AT THE OASIS in 1974. Her 10+ recordings since then are garnished with "tip-of-the-hat" guest appearances by artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Huey Lewis, Sonny Landreth and Mavis Staples, and showcase her abilities in jazz, pop, R&B, folk, gospel and blues. She has even worked in the musical theatre, having accepted roles in touring company versions of Pump Boys & Dinettes and Pirates of Penzance.

THE DARK SIDE OF BLUES & ROOTS
with BOSS TWEED
Americana
DOCKSIDE PUB
825 South Lake Boulevard
Mahopac, NY   See Map
Brooklyn based Boss Tweed plays music that stems from the dark side of blues and roots music. The trio is fronted by double threat Carolyn Sills on the Fender bass and lead vocals and features the dynamite Gretsch guitar playing of Gerard Egan, whose classic but innovative style conjures the larger than life sound of yesterdays guitar heroes. Combine these two powerful forces with the old-school New Orleans drumming of Eric Reed, soaring male/female harmonies and original tunes drenched in grit and twang and you'll see why Boss Tweed is changing the way people view Americana music. I guarantee this to be a great night of music. (mp) There is no cover for this performance, your generosity is always appreciated. Dockside is located just 3.8 miles off the Bryant Pond Road exit of the Taconic Parkway.

DANNY KALB, also PAUL GEREMIA
Blues, Folk/Traditional
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
DANNY KALB has long been recognized as one of America's foremost guitarists. A protege of the great Dave Van Ronk, Kalb established himself in New York's seminal folk & blues scene where he was first known as a solo performer and session player with Phil Ochs, Judy Collins, Pete Seeger and others. In 1965, Kalb founded the THE BLUES PROJECT along with Steve Katz and Al Kooper. His touch on the guitar is as exciting and as individual as ever.

Since 1966, PAUL GEREMIA has built a reputation as one of the finest bluesmen alive, a scholar of blues and jazz, and one of the best country blues fingerpickers ever. His delivery is natural and relaxed, his guitar work nonchalantly breathtaking. With his 6 & 12-string guitars, harmonica, piano, his husky, soulful voice, plus an innate sense of the humor & drama of the music, he keeps the tradition fresh with both standard and obscure tunes, as well as his own.
