Floyd Patterson Jr. brings his 5-piece blues and soul band to perform a free concert at Hasbrouck Park as a tribute to the people of the community his father loved so much. One of the busiest rhythm and blues dance bands in Western Massachusetts, Floyd’s band has been together since 1986. The band members include Floyd Patterson Jr. – bass/vocals, Marquis Rowtham – drums/vocals, La Dawn Owens – vocals, Edith Cooper – keyboards/backing vocals and Luther Johnson, III – lead guitar/vocals. Bookends, started by Chris Brown and Joe Summo as a duo back in 1976, blossomed into one of Westchester's top party bands. The band kept playing for about five years. After a long hiatus the guys started getting together once a year for a reunion gig. These shows were always a huge success. So much so that the band has regrouped and will be making their re-debut tonight. Chris and Joe will be joined by original band membersTony Saporito, Lou Bellofatto and honorary bookend, legendary bassman Eddie Denise. If this was not enough, the evening will startout with a set by Chris Brown accompanied by John Walsh on guitar. Chris has graced the stage at Dockside before. Westchester Jazz Orchestra will perform at Nyack's waterfront Memorial Park. The band will feature arrangements by several Nyack arrangers, including Anita Brown. Ms. Brown's recently commissioned arrangment on Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Sabia" will feature tenor saxophone artist, Jason Rigby, who is also featured withboth WJO & ABJO. For information about Anita Brown Jazz Orchestra's upcoming return to the stage on July 28th in NYC visit Anita's website shown in this listing. This performance will feature works from their CD 27 EAST in addition to new compositions and arrangements including 'Remembrance,' an original which was premiered at the 2007 and "Final" IAJE Conference held in New York. Steve Kirkman is a North Carolina native whose influences range from the early blues and gospel of the deep south, the country music of Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison, to the rock-n-roll of Elvis Presley, Bruce Springstein and everything in between. After more than ten years in New York City, Steve now lives in the Hudson Valley where he says it reminds him of his old homeplace in the foothills of North Carolina. Steve is also a co founder of the band Hope Machine and a board member and participant in the group Tribes Hill, a non profit organization uniting musicians of the lower Hudson valley in the spirit of collaboration and strengthening independent music of this region and beyond. His most recent recording is titled ROADS. This is Steves second time to the Dockside stage and he has quickly become one of our very special performers.
