Graham Parker & The Rumour released their first album, Howlin' Wind, in January 1976 to worldwide critical acclaim. Their second album, Heat Treatment, garnered similar critical reaction and propelled Parker to international recognition. A cover of the Trammps' Hold Back The Night claimed the band 2 appearances on Top Of The Pops and gave them a UK top 20 single. Other albums included Stick To Me (UK top 20), The Parkerilla (#14) and The Up Escalator (#11). GP & The Rumour disbanded after Escalator and Parker went on to forge a solo career that continues to produce powerful work, including The Mona Lisa's Sister, Struck By Lightning, the hard rocking Acid Bubblegum and Deepcut To Nowhere. Kairos will present the second in its 2008 Bach Cantata Series with Cantata No. 4, "Christ lag in Todesbanden" (Christ lay in death's bonds) with chamber orchestra. The concert will also include Bach's choral work Sanctus in D Major (BWV 238) and "Since by Man Came Death" from Handel's Messiah. The concert is free to the public (free-will offering gratefully accepted). The cantata and choral works will be performed as part of a choral evensong service. Supported in part with a grant from the Dutchess County Arts Council, administrator of public funds through NYSCA's Decentralization Program. | ||
