Every First Wednesday, Common Tongue will interpret the works of legends in contemporary music.

TONIGHT: A Tribute to Herbie Hancock... One of the most revered and controversial figures in jazz -- Hancock has cut a zigzagging forward path, shuttling between almost every development in electronic and acoustic jazz and R&B over the last third of the 20th century and into the 21st. Hancock's piano and keyboard voices are entirely his own, with their own urbane harmonic and complex, earthy rhythmic signatures.

Common Tongue, individually and collectively, have had the pleasure of playing with and supporting a multitude of artists throughout the Hudson Valley. Each member of the band is able share and play the music they are passionate about, as well as the music of the great artists that have been their inspirations.

Featuring: Sean Morrison / Piano/Keys, Bryan Ponton / Keys, Jyongyoon Lee / Guitar, Sam Smith / Bass, Bryan Kopchak / Drums and Jeff Haynes / Percussion

Join us for a Multi Media celebration in music and imagery of one of the primary sources of The Hudson Valley Sound.

From 1968 through 1975, the Band was one of the most popular and influential rock groups in the world. Their music ran counter to the counterculture, and was embraced by critics and the public, as seriously as the music of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Their albums, steeped in Americana and historical and mythic American imagery, were analyzed and reviewed as intensely as records by their one-time employer and sometime mentor Bob Dylan.

Re-Christened THE BAND, Capitol Records released Music From Big Pink, in 1968 - an indirect outgrowth of the The Basement Tapes (1967 Woodstock NY Sessions) and sounded like nothing else being done by anybody in music. It was as though psychedelia, and the British Invasion, had never happened. The group played and sang as five distinct individuals working toward the same goal, but not mixing too smoothly.

"Andy Stack's American Soup" freewheels through American Classics from Duke Ellington to Hank Williams. Surrounded by the Avalon Archives Museum of Rock & Roll collection, this diverse ensemble may play with direct references to the music represented in this astounding room!

As leader and a solo artist, Stack’s approach to songwriting, guitar playing and singing is sweeping. He generates creative expression with broad strokes, and builds momentum with nuance. He comes at you full-throttle, lifts you up and places you back down gently.

Jesse Murphy has been associated with the eclectic band, Brazilian Girls. Legendary jazz guitarist, John Scofield says: “Jesse is the most intuitive and like-minded bass player that I’ve played with in a long time. ..."

Michael Bram is currently the drummer for Grammy Award winner Jason Mraz, serving as Mraz's Musical Director from 2008-2010. He has also performed with Willie Nelson and Joss Stone, among others.

The name Cuboricua was inspired by the music of Cuba and Puerto Rico. Cuboricua identifies with the rhythms and melodies of the Caribbean; Salsa, Son, Rumba, Bomba, Plena, as well as Merengue.

The veteran musicians of this conjunto, to their credit, have performed and recorded with world renown artists such as Celia Cruz, Pete "El Conde" Rodriquez, Eddie Palmieri, Monguito "el unico", los Kimbos, and the New Swing Sextet to name a few.

This conjunto creates a traditional/modern energetic sound by placing the interlocking rhythmic figures of percussion and Cuban Tres under a smoothly swinging melody to create a new sound!

We're pleased to welcome Drew Bordeaux back to our 12 Grapes stage! Drew has opened for Daughtry and Boz Scaggs and performed at the 2016 Pleasantville Music Fest. Catch this up-close-and-personal performance.

Drew's sets are rooted in percussive acoustic guitar and earthy/soulful vocals, laced with live loops and violin solos. Drew meshes together core influences including classics like Fleetwood Mac and BB King to Talking Heads and Stone Temple Pilots -- with contemporaries like Mumford and Sons and Hozier to Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift. The resulting sound is often considered a mix of Ben Harper and Jimi Hendrix, his vocals reminiscent of Eddie Vedder and Darius Rucker.

Drew's performed at an impressive list of venues, including Bostons the Middle East and Sanders Theater, and NYCs the Bitter End, Ace of Clubs, and CBGB, and is a 12 Grapes favorite.
