Reviews of "A Man and His Music"
This 10-song CD, Martinson's first, is a compilation of his first cassette
release, "Take Time To Love," plus four new songs. Martinson, a staple on the
local club circuit, uses this release to, showcase his varied songwriting
abilities, including rock `n' roll ("Shirley's Song," "Love Me Good"), MOR
("Take Time to Love"), and country ("Carolinaù Past," "Blue Tick Hound.")
The CD's strongest cut is "You're A Part of Me," featuring Hall and Oates-type
pop with complex harmonies.
-- George Fletcher, Rhythm and News, September, 1994.
Local musician Bob Martinson's recent release, You're a Part of Me, has been
receiving some great airplay and substantial chart progress. His single, "Blue Tick
Hound" has been hanging out in the top 10 of the Top 40 Independent Country
Records list, and another single "Take Time to Love" has been hovering in the
10-15 range on the Top 30 Independent A/C/Pop Records chart.
We here at Musicmachine received a
copy of You're a Part of Me at the end of 1993, and we're not a bit surprised
that it's doing so well.
-- MusicMachine, January, 1994
Sincere vocal arrangements and serious MOR hit potential is the recipe for
success for Bob Martinson's Take Time To Love on Empty Sky Records.
No stranger to single releases, the compilation cassette showcases the old
and new.
If you're in the mood for taste of some good music, take the time to
listen Take Time To Love.

Reviews of "Music is My Life"
***** (out of 5)
Poughkeepsie-based Bob Martinson comes out of the gate strong with "Little Miss
Rhythm & Blues," the opening cut from this four-track CD sampler of original tunes.
It's storytelling approach keeps the listener interested; its cutting rock and
roll beat keeps heads bopping.
Likewise on "Workin' for a Livin'" a trusty lament bemoaning
the need for a day job (a subject that especially near and dear to
many a musician's heart) when there are clearly good times a-waitin' someplace else.
The strongest cuts are the first three. a batch of decidedly country-influenced
Martinson originals. The production values are snappy and the harmonies are tight.
Adapt and seemingly comfortable with the genre, Martinson smooth vocals are
reminiscent of many modern country artists. When utilizing his lower range on
sections of "Jesus & Mama," Martinson offers glimpses of Randy Travis. The playful
nature of "Little Miss Rhythm & Blues" and "Workin' For a Livin'" are also handled
well by the singer.
Guest musicians include Ed Monteleone (pedal steel), Rich Crane (percussion,
background vocals), Vince Leggiere (bass), Joe Scalfari (percussion), and Debbie
Major (background vocals).
Tom Vala tackles double-duty as guitarist and producer on the recording.
All tracks were recorded at 3 Bays Audio by engineer Milt Costakis.
Martinson has kicked around the Hudson Valley area for years now, releasing
numerous CDs of mainly of R&B and easy listening material prior to this offering.
But "Music Is My Life" breaks the mold. It's a thoroughly enjoyable CD, although
short. I look forward to an extension of Martinson and crew's energetic fun on
a full-blown country album.
-- Lisa Fairbanks, Rhythm and News, January, 2000.
