“Echoes of Erin” on St. Patrick’s Day at Tompkins Corners
Irish (traditional)
Tompkins Corners Cultural Center
729 Peekskill Hollow Road
Putnam Valley, NY   See Map
On St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th, Tompkins Corners Cultural Center, in Putnam Valley, NY, will present “Echoes of Erin,” a celebration of the music that has sustained waves of Irish emigrants on their journey to this “Isle of Hope,” the title of one of the songs from the show.

The strong narrative character of the Irish song tradition provides stirring insight into the soul of every emigrant: what it means to leave behind everything one knows and loves, perhaps forever. These songs, which saw the Irish through the hard times of “No Irish Wanted Here,” the subject of another song from the show, live on in the revered tradition of the “party piece” every Irish child learns as soon as he or she can speak.

Telling the story through—songs and stories, jigs and reels—are Judy Allen, Patrick Cummings, Janice Hardgrove and Timothy E. Pitt (A Simple Heart), Neil Hickey, Kate O’Connor, Jan Hoekstra, Joe Mahon, Pallas Athene Scott, and Linda Megale Thornton.

Come early! Refreshments.

Jazz
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
For anyone who loves joyful, unpretentious, but highly creative and spontaneous jazz, Todd Londagin’s new album Look Out For Love will be a delightful discovery. In the company of four longstanding musical cohorts, Todd has assembled a repertoire of 10 songs, culled from the Great American Songbook and popular songs. Bassist Jennifer Vincent and drummer David Berger have been playing with Todd since the early 1990s (all three were original members of the successful ‘90s band, The Flying Neutrinos); while pianist Matt Ray and guitarist Pete Smith have been performing with Todd since 2000. Together, they artfully and lovingly developed each piece like an assortment of delicious dishes combined together for a cohesive feast. As Todd explains, "each tune is an exercise in doing things in a different way." Unabashed swing is definitely a consistent mood throughout the CD.

Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online: www.wtbq.com or 93.5FM, NY   See Map
Tucked away in a town so tiny it isn't found on most maps, singer-songwriter Emily Barnes can be found sitting on the stone steps of her 200 year old home stitching together the latest melody from the fabric of her mind. For the past few years, Emily has been tirelessly trekking down the open road playing venues of all shapes and sizes stopping listeners dead in their tracks with a voice that cuts to the bone and songs that pull on the heart strings. Barnes continues to build a grassroots following from city to small town, one new believer at a time. Her album 'Let in the Light', released on 3/10/17, is honest, raw, and as quirky as are her shows. With an assortment of "found" instruments, lo-fi birds, pots and pans, this album paints a picture from start to finish. There is a feeling one gets when witnessing something authentic and rare, and that aura permeates the room at an Emily Barnes show.

WAR, from the very beginning, in 1969 was a concept and musical laboratory to experiment with the blending of many musical styles and influences. They wound up being honored with 17 gold, platinum or multi-platinum awards, which included the triple platinum “The World Is a Ghetto” and double platinum “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” The group garnered excellent reviews from mainstream and music press alike after touring extensively across Europe and the United States. England’s New Music Express called WAR “the best live band I ever saw” after their first UK gig in London’s Hyde Park. Musicians on both sides of the ocean were buzzing about this new band. Jim Hendrix jammed with WAR at Ronnie Scott’s Club the night on which Hendrix died. In late 1971 WAR released All Day Music, the title track would be the group’s first hit single, and their first gold single “Slippin’ Into Darkness” followed propelling the album to over 1 million sales and a winning streak that would continue for years.

The D-Major Project
Rock (classic)
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
The DMajor Project features a brilliant collaboration of musicians who approach the repertoire they perform from a wide eclectic mix of influences. Although often referred to as "an improvisational jazz group", that only describes one aspect of what their music really is. More accurately, The DMajor Project performs everything from folk to jazz to classic soul, Latin, neo-funk, world beat, roots and pop music, but always in their own unorthodox way! They take popular songs from every era, in all genres and styles, and mostly re-write, re- arrange, re-harmonize and rhythmically transform them into their own fun, quirky, original and truly unique renditions.

The band is centered around the mesmerizing vocal stylings of DEBBIE MAJOR ("DMajor") accompanied by the extraordinary talents of KEN McGLOIN (guitar & ukulele), AKIE BERMISS (pian, keyboards & vocals), and JON BATES (drums & percussion).

$10 admission.

Catch a rising star! Authentic Roots, Rock & Funk

12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
A true chance to catch a rising star, Hudson Valley based Dylan Doyle has been putting on spellbinding performances nationally as well as internationally. Southern bred, northern raised, his trio's style of music lies somewhere between roots rock and jam funk. It evokes Woodstock but also dips into southern soul. It's a uniquely American sound Doyle calls "a big melting pot."

Dylan has played with such notable musicians Rob Stoner (Bob Dylan, Don Mclean), John Platania (Van Morrison), Ben Cauley (Otis Redding) and Bill Payne (Little Feat). Ben Cauley, after playing with Dylan in Memphis said he, "sounds like a young Jimi Hendrix."

After a recent performance at the iconic Levon Helm Studios, Dylan was approached by James Dolan, President of Madison Square Garden, and was solicited to perform at future Garden events. Truly a young man with a bright future, this is a chance to say, "I say him when…"
