Friday 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm | Get a taste of the raga renaissance captivating audiences from Bombay to Brooklyn with Brooklyn Raga Massive World. Classical Indian raga meets a minimalist masterpiece | Hudson Hall at the historic Hudson Opera House 327 Warren St Hudson, NY See Map |
Brooklyn Raga Massive, the wildly popular collective of forward thinking musicians rooted in or inspired by the classical music of India, performs Terry Riley’s "In C". Composed in 1964, Riley’s "In C" is considered a minimalist masterpiece. The entire score consists of just one page, but allows for any number of performers in any instrumental combination to perform it. With its repeated patterns and improvisational form, the work can last for several hours or a fraction thereof, to ecstatic and transcendental effect. In spirit, Riley’s In C is not unlike the raga, the melodic structure of classical Indian music, and no two performances are ever the same. For this performance, Brooklyn Raga Massive brings the music full circle, beginning with a classic raga set led by percussionist Ehren Hanson (tabla) and flutist Eric Fraser (bansuri), followed by an hour-long version of Riley’s magnum opus with the full ensemble led by Neel Murgai. Sam Levin is a natural born musician. He started playing guitar at age 5 and writing music by 7, which is when we first met young Sam at a 12 Grapes Open Mic. A night we'll never forget, as he blew the audience away!
Now at the ripe old age of 15 Sam Levin just released some of his best work, on his new album, "Frame of Mind". Says one reviewer, "Sam Levin is possibly one of the most eclectic and innovative artists in the current scene right now." Quite impressive. Sonya also started singing very early in life. Her passion is musical theatre, but she has grown to be an impressive singer and guitarist. Sonya is a granddaugter of a famous Russian Composer and a performer Vyacheslav Dobrynin. She actually performed with him in Moscow Russia. We also met Sonya at a 12 Grapes Open Mic and was immediately impressed. Join us in supporting these emerging young musicians. **Free Admission** Please call for Dinner & Show Reservations

“Celebrating my journey in recovery through music, hoping to provide inspiration to all.”
One Song at a Time takes us on a journey with a thoughtfully chosen selection of songs that deftly weave in Barbara Jo’s own personal story of struggle and redemption. The album kicks off powerfully with her joyous, bluegrass infused version of the classic “I Can See Cleary Now,” speaking to the clarity of mind and spirit that has sprung from her sobriety. Her rendering of the George Jones hit, “Choices’ is nothing short of inspired, reflecting her years of struggle. Her original song, “The Winning Side” is an honest and personal glimpse at the artist’s journey through addiction. Traditional favorites and popular classics show Kammer’s versatility with a powerful voice reminiscent of greats like Linda Ronstadt, Joan Baez, or Mary Chapin Carpenter.
