Bluegrass and Roots Music Take the Stage
with James Reams & The Barnstormers, Lydia Sylvia Martin
Bluegrass, Folk/Traditional, and Roots Music
Jalopy Theatre
315 Columbia St.
Brooklyn, NY   See Map
James Reams & The Barnstormers, a long-established iconic bluegrass band that was nominated by the International Bluegrass Music Association in 2002 as Emerging Artist of the Year, will be appearing at Jalopy Theatre on Friday, May 19th, along with banjo sensation Lydia Sylvia Martin. Music critic Jerry Paul (former editor of Acoustica) described lead singer James Reams as "an inspiration to watch. He truly feels his music, and sings from his very soul. If James is ever within your area, he is a ‘must see’ bluegrass icon.” James Reams & The Barnstormers provide a contemporary take on traditional bluegrass; blending it with innovation and vitality to create their own branch on the “roots” tree. With a voice as pure as an Appalachian spring, but with a fierce mastery of her instrument and a delightful mix of southern-rooted tradition, Lydia Sylvia Martin taps into an inventive mix of styles that her adept banjo playing, natural vocals and arrangements bring to new life.

In 2015 Live Ireland Music named Cassie and Maggie their “New Group of the Year.” This year they gave Cassie and Maggie MacDonald the distinction of “Female Singer of the Year,” explaining; “The reason we are recognizing both is that with their vocals, they offer the perfect sibling blend... There is so much that goes on in each of their tunes and great live performances, it is easy to miss their beautifully offered harmonies. Perfection.” They conclude, “It’s hard to think of a more entertaining act in music right now.”

Irish Music Magazine lists them "among the top musical acts in demand on the Irish/American/Canadian scene."

Celtic Life International calls them: “one of the finest Celtic acts this side of the Atlantic."

Peekskill, NY   See Map
Yonkers native and practicing attorney, Michael Attanasio, has been singing for more than 40 years. As a child he learned Sinatra songs through osmosis by listening to his father's records. In his teens he discovered Joe Cocker, Chicago, Led Zeppelin, Santana, Clapton and the Allman Brothers. He spent time in a rock band but before the 70's ended he became captivated by Sara Vaughan, Al Jarreau and Joe Sample. Then came years singing in church, his soulful solos inspiring many. Michael's eclectic tastes are evident in his set list, drawing from the jazz standards of his Sinatra era father and those of his 60's and 70's music awakening period. Jazz, rock, soul, blues; Sinatra, Johnny Hartman, Bobby Darin, Ray Charles, Al Jarreau, Joe Cocker, Lionel Ritchie. Come hear them all in an intimate evening of songs from two generations.

Scott Stapp of Creed
Rock (modern)
Paramount Hudson Valley Theater

The founding member of Creed chronicled his quest for answers and his dreams, from faith to fatherhood, in chart topping hits like, “My Own Prison”, “Higher”, and “With Arms Wide Open” -all songs that dominated the sonic landscape of the 90s and 2000s. His soul-piercing lyrics backed by thundering rock riffs garnered a Grammy award and countless other accolades of creativity, not to mention legions of fans, who felt a kindred spirit in his honesty. In gratitude for the many interventions made in his behalf, Stapp devotes himself to “paying it forward” to others in need through numerous outreaches- such as the With Arms Wide Open Foundation and CHARM (Children are Magical)- that helped underprivileged children and families around the world. If John Prine and Mitch Hedberg had a baby, the resulting product would resemble something very close to Portland, OR singer-songwriter John Craigie. Musically comparable to Prine, with the humor and wit of Hedberg, the humble, gracious, and hilarious Craigie is one of the best storytellers of our time. It’s no wonder that Chuck Norris sends him fan mail, and Todd Snider brings him gifts on stage.

The vagabond troubadour has charmed audiences in all 50 states and throughout much of Europe, with a DIY spirit seldom seen these days. While touring solo and with the likes of Todd Snider, the Shook Twins, Nicki Bluhm, and ALO, Craigie has taken the stage at festivals, sold out venues, intimate house concerts, center camp at Burning Man and even Gregory Alan Isakov’s farm. Although based in Portland, Craigie’s true home is on the road, and just like that he’s on to the next town, playing and singing and telling stories to everyone who wants to listen.
