As a music-maker, Tom Chapin has maintained two long and productive parallel careers, both as a highly respected contemporary folk artist and as a pioneer in the field of children's music. In the former role, he has established a reputation for insightful, heartfelt songcraft and effortlessly charismatic live performances. In the latter, he continues to engage the hearts, minds and imaginations of young listeners with witty, life-affirming original songs delivered in a sophisticated array of musical styles. In either format, Chapin's infectious songs, sterling musicianship and personal warmth consistently shine through, whether he's performing on record or in a concert hall, an outdoor festival, a school, in front of a symphony orchestra or in an intimate coffeehouse.

They have a strong folk influence, and cover issues such as peace, religion and the environment, and many personal topics as well. Robt Sarazin Blake & The Letters + The Mammals feat. Mike + Ruthy
Americana, Folk/Traditional, and Acoustic
The Colony Cafe
22 Rock City Rd
Woodstock, NY   See Map
ROBT SARAZIN BLAKE & THE LETTERS: Over 20 years into making music, Blake celebrates his unusual song forms, which land between spoken word, folk song, rock song, and theatrical installation, with the title of his new double album, Recitative. Recitative, also known by its Italian name “recitativo,” is a style of delivery in which a singer is allowed to adopt the rhythms of ordinary speech—a style that permeates Blake’s music over the folk- and blues-inspired rock laid down by his backing band.

THE MAMMALS FEAT. MIKE + RUTHY: Mike + Ruthy, touring American folk act and founders of The Mammals, are bringing back the band name that energized crowds in the '00s and gave them their start. "We've always been Mammals at heart," laughs Ruth Ungar, the band's soulful singer and fiddler. "The music we're making has the same old-time and Americana roots, and our lyrics have gotten more political again." It's true, The Mammals were known for their rabble-rousing musical statements.

All four coaches were amazed by her incredible sound, and she placed in the Top 20 on Season 8 working with Lionel Richie and Nate Ruess from American indie band FUN. Today, her blind audition has reached over 6 million+views worldwide.

The Kingston Trio is one of the few groups today that has survived the many changes in the world of music. They have remained consistent in their sound, which probably explains their resurgence in popularity over the last few years. The Kingston Trio consists of George Grove, Bill Zorn, and Rick Doughtery. The Kingston Trio was the number one vocal group in the world, a musical and cultural phenomenon whose record sales and concert draws were matched only by The Beatles. The Kingston Trio’s trademark three-part harmony and clean, crisp sound keeps them touring 30 weeks out of the year. George Grove’s orchestral arrangements allow The Trio to perform with symphony concerts, which have become a fan favorite. The Trio’s busy touring schedule has resulted in an increasing number of fans, both young and old.

Ray Cardwell
Bluegrass, Americana, and Roots Music
Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online: www.wtbq.com or 93.5FM, NY   See Map
Ray Cardwell is a Nashville-based artist from the Missouri Ozarks who sings original, roots-based “Bluegrass Soul” music. Cardwell has spent his life forging a musical path built on the bedrock of a bluegrass rhythm section, beginning with performances as a teen in a family bluegrass band. He explored new wave, reggae, Motown, blues, rockabilly, gospel, classical, jazz, musical theatre, and marching band music before returning to bluegrass—incorporating many of his influences on the way back. Cardwell has the kind of voice and stage presence that leaves an audience spellbound. A prolific songwriter, Ray’s powerful, four-octave voice is what first caught the ears of producer/legendary guitarist Pat Flynn (New Grass Revival) in 2015. Since its January 2017 release on Pinecastle Records, Tennessee Moon (the name of the album, as well as Ray’s band), has scored major success with singles and album charts at Bluegrass Today, the Roots Music Report, and the Folk DJ list.

Bluegrass and Roots Music Take the Stage
with James Reams & The Barnstormers, Lydia Sylvia Martin
Bluegrass, Folk/Traditional, and Roots Music
Jalopy Theatre
315 Columbia St.
Brooklyn, NY   See Map
James Reams & The Barnstormers, a long-established iconic bluegrass band that was nominated by the International Bluegrass Music Association in 2002 as Emerging Artist of the Year, will be appearing at Jalopy Theatre on Friday, May 19th, along with banjo sensation Lydia Sylvia Martin. Music critic Jerry Paul (former editor of Acoustica) described lead singer James Reams as "an inspiration to watch. He truly feels his music, and sings from his very soul. If James is ever within your area, he is a ‘must see’ bluegrass icon.” James Reams & The Barnstormers provide a contemporary take on traditional bluegrass; blending it with innovation and vitality to create their own branch on the “roots” tree. With a voice as pure as an Appalachian spring, but with a fierce mastery of her instrument and a delightful mix of southern-rooted tradition, Lydia Sylvia Martin taps into an inventive mix of styles that her adept banjo playing, natural vocals and arrangements bring to new life.

In 2015 Live Ireland Music named Cassie and Maggie their “New Group of the Year.” This year they gave Cassie and Maggie MacDonald the distinction of “Female Singer of the Year,” explaining; “The reason we are recognizing both is that with their vocals, they offer the perfect sibling blend... There is so much that goes on in each of their tunes and great live performances, it is easy to miss their beautifully offered harmonies. Perfection.” They conclude, “It’s hard to think of a more entertaining act in music right now.”

Irish Music Magazine lists them "among the top musical acts in demand on the Irish/American/Canadian scene."

Celtic Life International calls them: “one of the finest Celtic acts this side of the Atlantic."
