Woodstock-based singer-songwriter Adrien Reju has coined her own brand of indie-folk-retro-rock with her strong, clear Patsy Cline-esque voice and old-soul quality songs with contemporary hooks. Fellow peer and singer-songwriter Rachael Yamagata says "she is like a bird from another planet who can see directly into your heart". Now she’s expanding her art with the release of her latest studio project, "Strange Love & the Secret Language" an album being billed as “a collection of unconventional love songs". Recorded in Woodstock with the production duo The Elegant Too (P. Diddy, Yoko Ono, John Cale) the album offers a lush, deeply textured pop record that has caught the attention of WDST and WXPN (Philadelphia), and finds Reju in the company of fellow Woodstock artists A.C. Newman (The New Pornographers) and Marco Benevento. In addition to her striking original songs, Reju also covers tunes by David Bowie, Elliot Smith, and Prince.

His best-known American single - "Second Avenue" - is the same stunningly earnest ballad also recorded by Art Garfunkel. Tim has also racked up number one records and chart successes in Europe, the Far East, Canada and Brazil. "Tim Moore ballads have a poignancy that puts them in a special class. They are naturally simple and artfully crafted." - The New York Times "Among the most important writers of our time." - Audio Magazine "Moore possesses a sure melodic sense and an idiom-spanning pop style." - Rolling Stone Featuring Rob Stein/Guitar, Brandon Morrison/Bass, Will Bryant/Organ and Lee Falco/Drums

Saturday 2:00 pm | Microphone Workshop with Hudson Valley Music Collective | Tin Roof New Paltz, NY See Map |
Microphone technique is one of the most, if not THE most, overlooked piece of the "make music sound great" puzzle. It starts with the source (the singer, the drummer, the guitarist) and the very next thing that happens is sound going into a microphone. There is a deep well of knowledge to be had here and knowing what microphone to use, where to put it in space, and **WHY** will do more for your sound than nearly any other choice you make, other than picking an instrument to use. So please join Rick Birmingham, 25+ year veteran "sound guy", as we discuss techniques and guidelines for things like: nine good ways to mic a drum kit, what exactly is happening when you grab the ball of a microphone, how to avoid the mysterious "phase issues", designing a "finished sound" before you even hit the record button, how to "work a compressor" as a singer, and multiple overall sonic approaches to achieve "the sound in your head". And he knows when to take his foot off the gas pedal. He gives it all a gentle nudge with a little swing, as he combines old-school sensibility with a contemporary edge. "What I try to do with the shows," Stack said, "is feature people and have an ensemble sound where everybody is contributing.” During his sophomore year at SUNY Purchase, Stack was tapped to join the New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble and he toured extensively in Europe. He returned to college, graduated, lived in New York City for more than a decade and then found himself in the Hudson Valley, living in Hudson.

Ryan Montbleau is one of those tireless musicians that can be counted on to release an album every couple of years and then show up on assorted stages both in the company of his band or simply playing solo. He’s the kind of performer who’s distinctive enough to carve a template all his own. He writes from a knowing point of view, but more often than not his lyrics reference the most unlikely scenarios, whether it’s a road trip with his mother-in-law, an homage to Prince and Purple Rain or an endless wait at the doctor’s office. Regardless, he offers the suspicion that these set-ups aren’t meant to be interpreted in the literal sense, further affirming the starry-eyed nature of his compositions.
