Marco Salazar Online Bass Lessons

Marco Salazar is a freelance bassist from the Hudson Valley whose chameleon-like style morphs to fit whatever he is asked to play, as a sideman or as an artist. He performs all styles of jazz, rock, pop, R&B/neo-soul, hip-hop, fusion, reggae, ska, blues, country, and latin/afro cuban music. Marco began his study of music at the age of 9 with percussion and drums, switching to bass at age 12. He studied jazz and contemporary music under the tutelage of Matthew Fields and David Miele at New York School of Music in Walden, working his way up the ranks at the school until he was in both the NYSM All-Star Band (popular music) and NYSM Jazz All-Star Band playing at charity benefits and festivals all throughout his high school years. After high school, he enrolled at SUNY Orange as a Jazz and Commercial Music performance major to enhance his knowledge of theory, composition, and arranging, expanding his knowledge to numerous popular genres and studying Jazz with famed composer and Jazz guitarist James Emery, and well-known pianist and Jazz composer Chris Parker. He also found his way into numerous original projects during his time there. He also studied improvisation with Larry Moses, well-known local jazzmen and composers Dan and Robert Shaut, and jazz musician Dennis Yerry. He has studied and continues to study bass with John Arbo.
A public performer since the age of 12, Marco has performed at the Falcon, the Chance, and for many local business events, community events, and festivals. He played Bethel Woods at age 16 and has worked with professional bands, party bands, and original projects all over the Hudson Valley. His professional performance experience includes recording sessions, festivals, late-night dance gigs, bar gigs, recitals, background music, and corporate events. He holds Associates degrees in both Jazz/Commercial Music and Liberal Arts/Humanities from SUNY Orange in Middletown and is continuing at Berklee College of Music in Boston on scholarship, working toward his Bachelorís degree in Jazz Studies and Composition, currently deferred due to Covid. He is currently offering virtual lessons teaching 4, 5, and 6 string bass guitar, including 5-string fretless bass, in all genres.
