william drucker The Scruggs style is the best and worst thing that has ever happened to banjo-playing. When done properly, it is mesmerizing but it is not easy to do it properly. The Scruggs style is what gives rise to the canard that the banjo is a difficult instrument to play. I no longer play the Scruggs style. I do not teach the Scruggs Style. If you want to learn the Scruggs Style, I am NOT your man. Clawhammer is a much more user-friendly style. It enables you to play lead and rhythm at the same time. My particular brand of clawhammer pays a great deal of attention to the melody and makes banjo-playing a pleasure rather than a chore.
