The Francois Wiss Trio pays tribute to the Golden Age of Cuba!

Featuring: Francois Wiss / Guitar/Vocals, Daniel Villeneuve / Percussion, Roman Lajara / Tres

The Buena Vista Social Club has always been more than a place: The long-shuttered nightspot has lent its name to Grammy-winning albums, an Oscar-nominated documentary and, most importantly, to a musical genre celebrating Cuba's "Golden Age" -- the vibrant sounds of the '30s, '40s and '50s.

Now a red-hot trio of musicians, lead by guitarist-vocalist Francois Wiss, pays tribute to this dynamic and danceable music.

Wiss studied music at the Conservatoire in Paris, where he was mentored by guitar masters including the legendary Pierre Cullaz. Now, he will perform such Buena Vista Social Club favorites as "Chan Chan," "El Payande," "Se Seco el Arroyito" as well as many others.

Paul Pesco's career in music began as a rehearsal technician at S.I.R. Studios, with numerous and prominent artists. Having played on some early sessions by a then-unknown Madonna, Pesco was offered a position as a "utility man" (playing second guitar and keyboards) with Atlantic Starr on the band's 1982 tour, after which Pesco was again recruited by Madonna to record on her self-titled debut album.

Paul has maintained his working relationship with Madonna, having recorded and toured with her ("Lucky Star", "Burning Up," The Virgin Tour 1985, "Erotica" and The Girlie Show World Tour 1993).

Through his work with techno funk group, The System, he came to the attention of the massively successful group Hall & Oates, with whom he became lead guitarist and musical director, and continued with Daryl Hall's successful reality music television program, Live From Daryl's House.

Deb Martin, Lauren Tully and Sharon Klein are talented local musicians who, individually, have a long list of accomplishments and a rich background in the music that they love. While preparing for an event at which each was performing, they discovered that they could produce a blend of intricate harmonies and that their voices together had a smooth, natural balance. Their sound “clicked” and they continue to develop their repertoire as a trio. They draw from an eclectic mélange crossing many genres, old and new. In addition to their covers, they perform originals which are beautiful, witty and meaningful. Their rich harmonies and tight delivery will not disappoint. Come, listen and enjoy the magic.

The open mic portion of the evening is a great opportunity for newcomers and seasoned performers with a welcoming, appreciative audience. All styles of music or spoken word, folk & beyond.

With live and recorded performances, his presentation will sample revered classics, lesser-known masterworks, intriguing rarities, and works mixing unusual instrumental combinations, as well as recent pieces that are new benchmarks for coming generations. Janet Bates is a singer songwriter, but only since the day that the US invaded Iraq in 2003. She was always musical, but had never written a song until that date. She was inspired by the writings of Martin Luther King, and the Riverside speech when he said "there comes a time when silence is betrayal....." When the first bombs were dropping she felt helpless, that is, until she realized she had a voice. She was told as a youth that she sounded like Joan Baez. Thus, she decided to write songs that gave life to the stories of those who have no voice............. the ones who have needlessly died, the poor, the victims of violent crimes such as wars.

To date,Janet has recorded many songs, released 5 cds, all with radio airplay in many countries. She will be releasing a 6th CD after a 10 year hiatus. She recorded that CD while being treated for cancer.
