Paul Stokes Acoustic Guitar Lessons
Paul Stokes has been teaching guitar for over 15 years. Versed in many styles, he started playing at twelve when he picked up an old Harmony acoustic guitar and joined the folk group at church. He’s been hooked ever since. In his early teens he began studying classical and jazz guitar with John Griggs in Norfolk, Va. At college he entered a rock and roll phase as lead guitarist for The Living Daylights and Duke and the Hambones - bands which played everything from Brian Eno and Talking Heads to Johnny Cash and The Yardbirds. He later graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in classical guitar performance, studying with Sam Dorsey, Cory Blake and John Patykula as well as playing in master classes with David Tannenbaum, Leo Kottke and Pierre Bensusan. Paul is comfortable teaching everything from classical to folk including acoustic blues styles (bottleneck slide and open tunings). He is well versed in music theory and improvisation (otherwise known as jamming). Whether you want to play Beethoven or the blues (or both), flatpick an Irish jig or learn to sing and play your favorite song off your ipod, Paul is ready when you are.
