Dog Year
Singer-Songwriter, Rock (modern), and Roots Music
by
Larry Kolker

“Sung with great soul, Larry Kolker offers a refreshing addition to the great singer-songwriter tradition with the powerful ‘Dog Year’. With a great ear for melody the arrangements feel positively energetic. Attention to detail means that these narratives feel akin to seeing a glimpse of a life being lived to the absolute fullest. Instrumentally rich, …everything feels perfectly balanced. The stylistic gamut runs from a western twang to elements of indie rock, folk with even a hint of reggae coming into the mix. A sense of humor and playfulness ties the entirety of the album together… [He also] incorporates a little bit of funk and jazz fusion… ‘Dog Year’ shows off Larry Kolker’s undeniable chops, creating a sound that feels timeless and infinitely tasteful.” –Skope Magazine

Larry Kolker plays blues-based soulful folk pop rock, harmonized by his distinctive voice. "Dog Year" is a full-band indie rock album drawing on roots and pop, featuring songs about love, loss, longing, and other small challenges. Larry performs solo with his guitar and blues harp, with a percussionist, with other singer-songwriters, with a trio, and with a full rock band.

Larry has performed in numerous venues throughout NYC, the Hudson Valley and beyond. Festival appearances include the 2015 KAABOO festival in San Diego, the 2014 Tribes Hill Music Festival at John Jay Homestead, the 2013-2015 Borderline Folk festivals, the 2013 Huntington Folk Festival, and the 2012 & 2013 Montauk Music Festivals. Other notable shows include the Bitter End (coming March 15, 2018, the People's Voice Café (Dec 2017), and featured singer-songwriter at Christopher Street Coffee House (June 2017).

As a performing songwriter, Larry is all about engaging with his listeners and revealing truths by looking at things in a different light. His songs can be touching and funny. Grass roots music is also about community -- Larry is a Board member of the Tribes Hill musical community; organized two benefit concerts for Children's Rights; co-founded "Shma Na Na", a progressive Jewish music group from Croton-on-Hudson; has served as a board member of the Borderline Folk Music Club; has run numerous open mics and song/jam circles (including the 2015 Clearwater Festival and 2016 Take Me to the River Festival jam circles); and has performed at numerous benefits and tributes. Larry is a Lee Oskar Harmonica Preferred Player.

Dog Year was recorded at Mark Dann studios, with Mark on bass, Peter Calo on guitar, Lara Herscovitch on harmonies, Paul Leschen on keys, and Jeremy Kolker on drums. His prior albums, "Awful Smart Man" (2012) and "Long Island Slim" (2002) are also available on the various online distribution sites.
