An evening of indie folk/country
with Ben Trickey, Pat Linnan
Acoustic, Folk/Traditional, and Country
Hilo Catskill
Catskill, NY   See Map
"Ben Trickey is a tremendously gifted songman who'd just as likely win over a rowdy bunch in a Tennessee honky-tonk as he would a polite Decatur shhhhh gathering. As it is, he usually plays rock clubs, and that's fine too. There's a twangy quaver in Trickey's voice that gives his songs both added vulnerability and power..." -Jeff Clark, Stomp & Stammer

"As he sings his slow, simple songs, you are taken back to a dustbowl-era mentality. A time when the folk singers were few and far between; a time when the folk singers weren’t just good, they were damn near perfect." -Daniel Anderson

Pat Linnan is a songwriter based out of Hudson, NY.

Hoag & the Weasel
Acoustic
Green Kill
229 Greenkill Avenue
Kingston, NY   See Map
Hoag & the Weasel is a brother duo originating from Vernon, NJ.  Anthony Assante (guitar) and Vincent Assante (violin) integrate folk instrumentation with rhythmic textures of progressive rock and modern musical nuances while reinventing the possibilities of a guitar-violin duo.  It is all driven by a high energy foot-stomping pulse from each of their self-made foot rattles and a bass drum. The brothers have previously performed in various bands together, but turning to the minimalism of a duo forced the focus to musical purism.  The result has captivated audiences ranging from folk songwriter showcases, DIY houses, and even metal shows.  They create an experience that has been described as cinematic, tribal, and refreshingly new.  Being only a year young, Hoag & the Weasel recently played a Sofar Sounds show, has been a featured act in NJ

"Winard Harper is one of his generation's greatest standards bearers." Downbeat Magazine

Winard Harper has performed with some of the greatest names in jazz. At 20, he was playing the drums first with Dexter Gordon, and then Johnny Griffin, and honed his chops for the next four years under the tutelage of the late, great Betty Carter.

With his brother Philip Harper on trumpet, Winard led The Harper Brothers, one of the hottest groups of the post-bop era and produced the chart topping Remembrance: Live at the Village Vanguard.

Winard has released four CD's to his credit: Be Yourself (1994), Trap Dancer (1998), Winard (1999), and Faith with Carrie Smith (2000). He is one of the most sough-after sidemen on the jazz circuit; has been exploring African rhythms that influence his work, and is noted for his abilities on the cymbals, which under his hand become an outstanding solo instrument all their own.
