Microtonal Festival

SUNY Ulster is offering a special day of new sounds in its first Microtonal Festival. This event is for musicians and non-musicians, children and adults alike, hands-on activities, performances, and lectures. Among the workshops, Skip La Plante will build musical instruments from scratch with both kids and adults. Jon Catler and Meredith Borden of the 13 O'clock Blues Band, will lead workshops on how to play instruments in ways you’ve never imagined. Henry Lowengard will lead a presentation on microtonality and technology. All this activity becomes preparation for the evening concert, which features the microtonal blues band, 13 O'clock. This event is free to the public. The instrument building workshops will have a $10 materials fee and require prior registration. For more information contact Chris Earley, Chair of the Arts, at (845) 688-1949 or earleyc@sunyulster.edu to register for this workshop.
