Eric Banger and the Mashers formed in 2012 in Newburgh, NY with Jeff Doolittle and Greg Burak on guitars and vocals and Eric Petersen as the lead singer and bodhran player. While Greg and Eric have moved on, Jeff has continued the band with Anastasia Solberg on fiddle, Liza Doolittle on vocals and Zach Brandman on mandolin. Inspired by Irish folk bands such as the Clancy Brothers, the Dubliners and the Pogues, and drawing upon the monumental print collections of Irish traditional music written in the nineteenth century, the band plays a fun combination of raucous drinking songs, touching folk ballads and energetic jigs and reels. The members of the band lead varied lives: Jeff is a Ph.D. candidate in Medieval History at Fordham University; Anastasia is a classically-trained violist who performs internationally and also teaches at SUNY Ulster; Liza is a jazz and blues singer and full-time mom and Zach is an insurance underwriter and plays bass in other local bands.
